I've been charged with the task of selling some stereo equipment. Please have a look at the pictures at the following link. I would deeply appreciate any insight as to how much it is worth.

Possible gold mine...Direct your friend here
This is exactly what I needed. Personally, I don't think this stuff is worth the gas to take to a goodwill. Again, I was charged with the task of finding a home for it. The story behind it is the stuff belongs to the brother of a family friend and his drunk ass thinks it is worth over 500.00 bucks. Court ordered into rehab program and the aftermath fell on his sister. My sister is helping her and now his mess somehow sticks to me.
Now, I can go back to both of them and show that it is worthless.
Thanks!
$500?
Sounds drunk to me
I'd pay someone to get that shit out of my house.
Hope you don't get saddled with more BS - that's how these things tend to go. Next thing you know, he's discharged from rehab to your house!
It's always appreciated when a poster returns and updates the thread after there have been a number of replies. In this case, it's even more important - to counter a couple of the posts.
Regards,
Geoff
that makes more sense. I was afraid that you had an emotional attachment to it. Welcome to the 21st century...
Came to the right place and did due diligence (as such).
Hopefully they will appreciate the time and effort you put into this.
Come back and discuss audio equipment or music or cats (Central) or some such some
time - AA can be a fun and interesting place (if a bit harsh ((but honest)) with ... dated, funky audio equipment)!

Upon further thought on the matter, the cassette decks would be perfect for playing cassette tapes. Think of it, four tracks squeezed onto 1/8" tape running at a whopping 1-7/8 ips on a deck made especially for that.
It would be a mid-fi marriage made in heaven. Take that, iTunes!

How much should I ask for my XXX amp is called my XXX is for sale without actually advertising. Thin line, but the mods here usually do the right thing and delete the ad.

... Or drop it in a wheelie bin.
It is not worth a second thought.

Probably right. Maybe stick them out on the curb for a couple of days with a sign that says "Please Take" and see if they disappear.
Regards,
Geoff
...It may be more fruitful to write on the sign;
Valuable, please don't take!

...they would snip the power cords and leave the gear.
The wire is worth more.
...The Wheelie bin.
As I live in a poor down-trodden neighbourhood I know lots of free-loaders. It is simple to just give the gear away.
I never have any trouble off-loading my gear once I've finished with it.

Is sudz selling all his gear?
Hopefully, you'll find someone who has the time and patience needed to see these items through to a dignified death a few years down the road.
The items you've shown us may not be worth the time and trouble it would take to sell them. Paired with a decent pair of budget speakers, however, there is absolutely no reason why a guy could not have a hell of lot of fun with these things...

"thanks for the advice!"
Nor would I expect him to.

I doubt he'll return to say.."thanks for the advice!"
In fact, it turned out exactly like that. Amazing, eh?

... Proven wrong eh?
Your Honour, I object! What? Over-ruled? I strongly object! Sustained? Thank goodness your Honour is partial to colour of my money.
I'm not terribly sure how a qualified, but speculative, opinion of a hypothetical event can be proved anything, let alone right or wrong.
We can see what came to pass but nothing was proved. If it was, I will appeal.
Life is good, enjoy it.
Cheers!

Welcome! Worth-
if you donate to a thrift or Goodwill, take a $300 tax credit.

Just give them to a thrift store. People want 5.1 systems or HDMI stuff on Craigs List. It is not worth the time to sell them. Do you have a garage? Might be good there? Try not to get "emotional" about them. Time to upgrade...

"E Burres Stigano?"
copy cat.......just kidding, he might get 20 on some of them if they work and he cleans them. That's what I put. I'd lump them all together for $100 and try for one transaction to move them all.

estate sales, this group falls perfectly into the "ask $20 be (very) happy with $10 a piece" group.

Even about $20 apiece on Craigslist would take some time and probably not all of it would sell. Maybe a package deal of $100 for the lot provided you clean them and take better pictures and test everything as working.

or were you waiting until after your post (and the ensuing honest responses you've received) to
gauge whether it was worth your time?
Methinks you should donate them to a worthy charity.

All ya gotta do is go to a decent sized pawn shop or thrift store to see shelves full of this kind of stuff priced at $10 - $20.
If you don't want to donate it and take a *maybe allowable* $20 each charitable donation tax deduction, then go sell it to a pawn shop for $3 each.

They are old mid-fi gear that didn't cost much when new.
Give them to Goodwill.
Jack
Sorry, but there is nothing there that is of interest.
Regards,
Geoff
I don't see anything there that I would be willing to spend $10 on.
My first thought would be to list each piece on ebay starting at 99 cents, with no reserve (just make sure the buyer is responsible for shipping.)
That may sound harsh, but I've sold quite a few things on ebay that way - including 2 Porsches. Tends to get you the true market value for things listed that way.
That's the most effort I'd put in.
