It won't be a surprise if I mention dCS converters. Even in their earliest days their ability to render depth was remarked upon. Try to see the original Hi Fi News review of the dCS Elgar back in what, 1999? The reviewer said something to the effect that the first thing he noticed and which impressed him was the (aural) disappearnece of his front wall.Of course DAC design in general has come a long way in the intervening years and I daresay there are now numerous DACS at far less cost that have comparable ability.
I would remark, however, that many people compromise any ability to reproduce a 3D soundstage by piling up their equipment in between the speakers. This produces two deliterous effects on the soundstage. One is caused by relection/diffraction, the other is of a psychoacoustic reason. As brains favour visual over audio stimulii one will tend to "hear" the sound as coming more from the pile of equipment rather than from within an illusion of depth.
NB: Good test disc. Also get to hear the Chesky ones. The first has the best set up test that I have heard for stereo positioning.

Hi and thanks a lot for your very interesting reply.
" there are now numerous DACS at far less cost that have comparable ability "
Maybe you guess my next question ... any particular suggestion ?
i am always willing to make a sacrifice for soundstage depth in particular
I know that also acoustic treatment can do but i am changing rooms quite often lately.
Thanks again.
Kind regards,

BG, you took the quote from me at the wrong point. I prefaced that remark with "I daresay" which means that I do not have direct knowledge but it is reasonable for me to believe this.
The only DAC that I reularly hear other than my own dCS Paganini is in the EAR Yoshino Acute CD player. Very good at everything. Expensive though but interesting with its nalogue filter instead of a digital one and its tubes. The converter section is available as a standalone DAC.
I daresay there are others that produce a convincing soundstage and perhaps at a more affordable price.
Anyone still enjoying E.A.R. acute cd player in 2022 ?
Specifically, the Original from mid-2000's.
Thanks again.
I have always this "giant killer" bug in the mind, especially with digital.
Digital is a really strange beast ... not completely understood i believe.
Analog is in the end down to mechanics ... the better the mechanical design the best the performance.
Digital instead is very tricky. Cheap products can sound even more musical than expensive one.
I remember the old story of a cheap dac here in the digital forum ... it was very cheap but won a best sound award .. the Art DI/O.
Thanks again.
Kind regards,
bg
So right about the need for speakers to be set up with only air between them and, I would say, around them.
So right in emphasizing the prime importance of visual cues.
