cuz, this is what pops into my mind.
I must admit I don't even know what RAID stands for.
Follow Ups:
There are various RAID configurations, but for our music purposes here, I'd guess that most configurations are set up for mirroring (RAID 1): the same data is written to two different drives, so that if one fails, the other continues and the failed drive can be replaced. Here's a link to a PC Magazine article about it:
I would still employ my IT geek in the event that I go streaming.
I am finding out, in order to optimise the sound, the file based system is tweaky as an analogue set up. In some way it's worse because the technology is not quite matured so things keep changing.
The soundwise, tho, they "can" have an advantage when played a high res rips from a turntable but the proper way of recording from the TT remains cumbersome.
I know I have to do this sooner or later but for now, still holding out with vinyl ( my high res. format ) and CDs.
So one has to feel comfortable around computers to get the whole experience.
I prefer visiting record stores and book stores.
Oh, and driving my car instead of having it drive me.
