Unless Im misinterpreting your remark. Not trying to be over sensitive here so please dont think Im slamming you. Just funny to think "real" trekkies would feel the motion picture a poor Trek movie.
I dont think anyone can say it better and or more entertaining than one of the greatest trekkies, Mike Stoklasa. This is voice of Mr Plinkett. If your a hardcore trek fan and like some edgier humor, listen/watch his trek movie reviews. He got rather "internet" and then some famous for a lengthy and crazy attention to detail reviews of the star wars prequels. Explaining at great and humorous length why they sucked :)
This chart is lifted from his review of JJ's Star Trek film. He did a wonderful and level headed review of the film. He pointed out its short comings. And for a true die hard trek fan. One who understood and appreciated the cerebral, deeper message point of star trek. He also gave it allot of props. He acknowledged what needed to be done to bring Trek into the next generation and then some. Hopefully this new reboot of Trek will in time bring about the deeper trek us old school fans miss and feel is a big part of why trek 1st existed.
For those who enjoy and appreciate edgier, thought provoking and funny movie reviews, I cant promote Mike and Jay's work on redlettermedia enough. But watch their stuff on youtube when you can. Their sites streaming kinda sucks by comparison.
Also I wish he didnt pull it down from youtube. But Roger Ager of collative learning used to have a great analysis of Trek the Motion Picture on his youtube page. He has a web site of his own which sells his reviews. Trek fan or not he does level headed, thought provoking reviews of films and concepts on his youtube channels. Another very high recommendation.
Yup Nimoy will be missed. But that man sure made his mark in history. And in a good and very positive way. We should all be so lucky.
Follow Ups:
But I prefer the mix of both - Star Trek 2 and 4. But the idea of the first one was as Plinkett argues.
I love his reviews - most of the time his reviews are FAR more entertaining the movies - not hard in most case - especially his new Star Wars movies.
But Star Trek 2009
He likes his sci-fi slow and dull and his action movies fast and awesome.
Just like I like my speakers Fat and Ugly and my women slim and sexy.
Plinkett - the serial killing movie reviewer we all love... And I love his AVATAR review as well.
If your gonna kill yourself do it over something admirable, like gambling debts! Plinkett's view of the world is just the greatest.
Yup, he likes Star Trek the motion picture because at any point; he can get his brakes done on his car, get a hair cut, go to the bank... and come back and not have missed anything! LOL
The way they (Jay and Mike) and plinkett review movies. And the overall character of plinkett. I always saw it as, you cant take yourself too serious. The notion of getting this into movies and being so critical as something of a craziness in itself. Not in a demeaning way perse. But, a sort of self check. Like hey guys, lets acknowledge the fact were getting a bit too into this here. How about a little humor and self deprecation. This place could learn allot from that frame of mind LOL.
I remember the first time I watched Mike and Jay on half in the bag, do their review of Twilight, Breaking Dawn part 2. OMG I was rolling from laughing at that one. Or how Mike went on a tear doing his review of Whats your Number. Haha... Its rare he lets himself get away with being overly negative and demeaning (wait a minute, did I forget Plinkett ;). But on that one it was just too funny to watch him not be able to contain his disgust.
Great shows and reviews. Real shame there arnt more shows like this. Humor is such an important part of life. I totally look forward to new episodes and really hope there are more full length Plinkett movie reviews. I used to drive an old coworker nuts listening to plinkett do reviews while working on projects in back. Funny thing is I think he started to like em after a while. The humor wont catch everyone. But for some it grows on you.
Nice to see another fan. Hope Jay and Mike get more recognition over time. Id love to have a beer with em. There only an hr or so away from me.
