You say DIY and by the 'Max' and 'The Midlife Crisis' I take it these indeed ARE totally DIY. Very nice craftsmanship there! I imagine not inexpensive to get custom enclosures/front panels made, or are they semi-custom? Just curious.
AHA! I see your post on diyaudio, hafta check it out ...
I built my 300B SET monos from Bottlehead kits, enjoyed it, but likely those are the last of my DIY adventures. My casework on them is pretty abysmal ... but the soldering etc. is pretty well done, if I should say so myself. Upgraded some caps to V-Caps and Mundorf Silver-Oils, sound nice.
Did you pull those monoblocks from Dr. Frankenstein's mansion? I'm betting they sound pretty sweet....
No, I took them from Grandpa Munster's Lab. He used them to grow hair on bowling balls.
It's not the dedicated listening room that I once had but it will have to do for now until we finish the basement.

My Duntech Princess C5000 w/ my ARC amps
Hi mondial,
I owned Duntech Princess speakers for 19 years. Yes, I thought they were wonderful.
But mine seemed to be larger than yours. Mine were 6' tall and weighed 165 pounds each. From the scale of your ARC amps yours appear to be somewhat smaller.
My understanding is that Duntech implemented some changes after John Dunlavy's separation but I don't believe they reduced the size of the cabinets.
However your C5000 model number may hold the clue, I don't remember mine.

Hi M3lover,
It is indeed 6ft tall mine had additional 2 inches because of the spikes. Its 163 lbs maybe its just photography ( Im lousy in taking pictures) . The princess was called PCL or was it PLC 1100 if I recall the new ones are called C5000. I will try to post a picture later if i have the time to show you that indeed its 72 inches tall.
mondial.
Hi again,
Thanks for replying. I checked back and the model number for my Princesses was PLC-1100 so you were right about that.
Anyway, no need to bother with more pictures. I understand you have a later model Princess and your initial picture fooled me.
Enjoy!

My toes do not look that much better. Rx that works is hard on the liver - what isn't.
Anyhoo, here 'tis. Maggies will make way for the JanZens within the next month. We moved in about 4 months ago and are still unpacking the audio stuff.
Next: headphone system.
Hi robss,
You mention Janszens are on their way and I see your system listing identifies zA2.1s.
You are in for a musical treat. I've owned a pair for a little over a year and absolutely love them. I will suggest you pay careful attention to David's set up instructions. Because they do not radiate from the rear they can be placed closer to the front wall than typical planars. Mine are about 18" out. Move them too far into the room and bass extension will suffer. A RTA shows mine extend into the 30 Hz range, although not with high output.
Congratulations.

Why do they look like they have bullet holes in them?
As for damaging your liver from taking to many drugs.
My neurologist sent me for a blood workup specifically for my past 18 years of taking loads of prescription drugs. I never added them up.
Now I have a nice rainy day job.
Some as much as 9X's the recommended dosage.
As for that toe fungus. The best medicine is very toxic to the liver.
I spent a lot of money on some.
I have a friend who told me to use white vinegar mixed with water.
Start off 90% water & 10% vinegar. Slowly work up to higher doses.
And a jar of Corn Huskers Lotion. The vinegar dries your skin.
I keep forgetting to buy some white vinegar.
Try it.
Headphone system: in a small bedroom, now an office of sorts as well. There was little forethought behind what it became: the "rack" is a oak kitchen cart with Hard Rock (Michigan) Maple top from the first house I had. I made it myself. The Bryston BHA-1 head amp. was from a recent trade-in, etc.
Interestingly, the AA Pop-up ad asks "Searching for Hydrocodone?"
Happy Listening all and stay away from the fungus!
Here is my most recent photo. Just added a rack from Timbernation, and a Vibraplane under the SME 10. It was a nice improvement.
Before I post a picture of my stereo I decided show off my toes.
... of decency.
But that was a good line.
Thanks for not posting the hemmie pics.
Pproctologist That's one job I could easily pass up.
Better placed a Combination antibiotic /antifungal ,steroid ointment. Soak your foot in Normal Saline irrigating solution for at least 15 mins 2-3x a day to dry the leasion.Or better yet consult your dermatologist.
Even the fungus infected toes are looking much better.
What's next a zit popping demonstration?
And yet despite the look on my face, you're still talking.
High gloss shinny black speakers have proven to be so difficult to photograph well in a room without much natural light.
Or some good photo light setups.
And for you Dick.
Perhaps you would like to see a head done up in beautiful stainless steel?
Some on the spine and head?
Now you know why I pulled them out.
that's batshit insane, and I like it. I do surgery on myself too.
for skin problems, hemp oil (it has omega 3's and omega 6's vitamins) and a supplement called "cellfood"
for toenails, you did that right.
not a fan of opiates, I do not judge though :)
My surgery was a lot cheaper then going to the foot doctor.
The last one charged about $300.00 for an X-Ray and cut my toenails.
I can't bend over for long because of 2 brain injuries.
Of which I have two ventricularperitonial shunt's.
And I learned how to pump them myself.
The neurosurgeon's don't seem to mind even when I pump them as many a
400 times.
Opiates? I've been taking them since January 29, 1996.
They have very little negative effect's on me.
Not even when I took 18, 750mg Hydrocodone pills at once.
Finally! I got to watch TV that afternoon without so much pain.
So far those toe nails are growing back without that virus. :-)
Frostbite? Gnarley!
So the right toe was treated with 7, 750mg Hydrocodone and a large of Vodka.
Waited an hour for the drugs to take effect and then I pulled the large toenail out from it's root bed.
A week later 6 Oxycodone's and another large glass of Vodka so I could pull out the left toenail.
Yes by the way. The drugs only made it comfortable.
I now know why pulling out people's fingernails and toenails is used for integration and torture.

which cryo tube(s) do you use in your AA spinner?
The speakers are Gallo Nucleus Ultimates, circa 1996. I've gone back to them after finding them better-sounding (to me) than the current models I had been using (Stradas+ TR3 subwoofers), which have the same drivers as your Reference 3.5s.EDIT: The system components are identified in my Inmate System listing.

Awesome-looking speakers, Dave. How do you compare them to the newer Gallo Nucleus Reference 3 series?
There's a pair of these for sale on an on-line marketplace now. They certainly look radical, I wonder how they sound.

This is my garage setup. Yes those are reclaimed 6' aluminium light fixtures with a pair of Radio Shack knockoff Fostex fe103. I have LSi9's and am seriously thinking of upgrading to the LSiM703. Do you think it's worth it?
Sorry, I can't help. I know nothing about the LSi9s. Hopefully, someone else will jump in here.
are those Polk's? Very nice, was looking at the LSiM floorstanders before getting my Gallos.
Yes .. the LSiM703. The only thing I was looking for was a set of speakers that designed well enough NOT to have the typical mid-bass bump. As it turned out, the 703s met that requirement and gave me a whole lot more !! Over the past year or so, these speakers have triggered an updating of the entire system with the exception of the Yamaha T-85 tuner. It's been a lot of fun.
those speakers must sound great! congrats on the system.

I agree with the post below that says you need a new camera. If not for yourself, please consider the other inmates (Winky face). I like yer gear, I just would like to see it in a bit more detail.
Here's mine as it sits today..
I'm not sure what kind of camera to get, do those point and shoots work ok? what brand?
I don't have a social life, so taking pictures of my system would be all I would use it for :)
Well if you aren't going to use it much the money might be better spend on music and booze but any modern point and shoot will be fine for most people. Camera technology is getting cheaper all the time.
But don't let our ribbing convince you to buy something you don't need or want.
I still use a Nikon Coolpix ( I bought a refurbished unit @100$ ) but a photo capability of these smart phones are getting better and better.
This system shot was done with an iphone 5.
So if you are just going to putter around, you don't need no fancy camera.
Also, at a low light, a tripod helps.
I second the iPhone. I have a good digital camera, but often find it more convenient to just use my iPhone for most pictures.
shot this minor panoramic using my Tab 3.

I think the issue is my listening area is extremely dark. I have a few android devices. I would never use an apple product ever again. I tried MacOSX and the whole iThing ecosystem. Not for me. I am a Linux guy since 1997.
Plus apple products are very expensive. The problem is low light I think and no professional equipment. I would need a camera where I can set exposure to about 20 seconds.
regarding Apple products, I use it for my work but to date, I have not owned any *i* products.
I don't even know how to use iPods. ( nor do I care )
I use a simple LG flip phone and I tell everyone I do not text. :D
If the ikea floor stander light is the only lighting you have, it will be difficult. It might be cheaper to get get another light.

Nice clean rig! At some point in my audio life, I must try a pair of classic Quads. And a pair of Magnepans, and Lowthers, and and and. It never stops!!
Self centering woofer facilitates placement!
Great pics guys!
nice, how's the Roland on the Ref 3.5's? The Bel Canto REF 500s I use sounds pretty good, was the most economical for my budget.
The JRDG 501's are supplemented by the PC-1 Rectifier/Conditioners which can be seen in the bottom of the equipment rack beneath the Audience aR12 unit. The amps only accept a balanced signal and are run directly by that highly modified Wadia unit. Given all that, I have no issues with power, control or clarity throughout the entire frequency range with the Ref 3.5's.
The purpose built room helps here with a concrete floor covered with porcelain tiles, 2 x 6 framing with acoustic strips between the studs and wallboard set against cement blocks in the outside wall. The space is treated with GIK Acoustic panels. The room is very inert which makes for a very clear presentation.
Those ballistic rubber blocks used as speaker stands made a very significant difference on the Ref 3.5's overall presentation given their inert structure and height.
The woofer has the best of care with regular exercise and input with only premium quality energy sources!
That woofer looks like he or she needs a good body rub. Stomach rub down.My amp sounds a bit dark but I like it. Was thinking about your power reserves with that setup. Must be something else really cool setup you have over there. One thing I have to say is Gallo is going to come out with another reference flagship. I will try no biting. If it happens that I get rabies I will have to get the Bel Canto REF 1000 monoblocks and plug them new realities in. The Ref 3.5 are heavy so I think they will at that point have to move to the next room.
Nice system. Hope you really spend some quality time with your woofer ;). If I had a woofer I would feed it filet mignon.
Edits: 12/07/14 12/07/14
Those Gallo Ref 3.5 replacements have been a very long time in coming. They will have to be a significant improvement for me to upgrade. I do not know how much more could be done to improve the 3.5's if the current design concept is retained. For me, height was the biggest issue which those ballistic rubber blocks took care of nicely.
The JRDG sustain 500 watts each for the Ref 3.5's rated impedance. They are not dark sounding but quite open and effortless.
The room doubles as a library for my book collection. I have included a pic of the sweet spot.
The woofer has a complimentary female partner of approximately the same size!
the Gallo I don't know what is up his sleeve. We'll have to wait and see, I agree if it is like a Ref 4.0 or something using same design I will hold off, probably even if it is another completely new design I maybe would hold off too.
here's my listening chair (couch), I went with the Scarface film type of look in my listening room, black lamp shade, black leather and black curtains. Couch has a projector which I rarely use sitting on the fold down cup holder.
again we will have to see what Anthony comes up with, I'm not sure what to think at this point.
This is the very limited information I have found on a new Ref 4. it is on the Gallo website in Australia.
Snapped this while sitting here reading this thread. iPad camera resolution sure leaves a lot to be desired.
How have ya been, Mike? Long time, no hear (of course, I don't hang out here that much anymore).
No subs with those Acoustats? I know the last time we talked, you were really happy with the new equipment.
Cory
Hey, Cory!
I'm deeply, deeply in love with my Acoustats. Took a long time to exorcise all the gremlins from these nearly 35 year old servos. They'd been disused for many years before they came into my possession and it took over two years to smoke out all the issues and fix them. They've been completely reliable for some time now and they sound awesome. During that shake-out period, they were both tantilizing and infuriating. No need for a sub, they go plenty deep as they are. They are just SO DAMNED FAST, and being full range, they make for quite an experience. You should drop by ...
