Because it doesn't really matter.

The Orwellian world has come and gone and nobody noticed. Our lives just aren't that interesting that anyone else would ever care.

The East German spy v. spy thing was certainly tragic - but at the same time quite enlightening in that we learned something very meaningful.

You have to dig awfully hard to find anything significantly wrong with just about any of us except for the criminally minded or the psychologically impaired.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that part of the glue that makes our society work so well is this - If you're not doing anything wrong then maybe you shouldn't worry too much.

There will hopefully come a day when the East Germany's will no longer exist, and all we will need to worry about is the sociopaths. That, I think we can manage.
