Enough flogging Audiogon already! Maybe AA needs a new forum just for you whiners and haters.
First it was mild complaining, then it became passive aggressive, then outright aggressive, now it's finally come to vindictive. Drive a stake through the heart? Come on. Do you really hate a commercial venture that much? Has it harmed you somehow? Is your world that small?
I, for one, don't want to see Agon killed, via stake or any other means. I admit I loved Agon right from the start (late 90's), but maybe not as much these days. However, their success is a testament to the type and level of service they provide. Are there some things wrong? Sure. Do they still help people sell and buy specialized stuff? Yes, certainly, and that alone should exonerate them. They have every right to charge money for that unique service, and make a profit from doing so. If they want to control certain aspects of the site with an iron fist, that is also their right. If they need to take some new tactics to stop widespread cheating (who hasn't, at least once?), they should go ahead. If you're too cheap or can't handle being forced to pay, list here for free or start your own site. See how long you can keep it running without any income.
So the orgy of cheap buying and selling equipment has come and gone. No more "If you don't like it, you can always sell it for what you paid or even a profit on Agon." I can't keep count of how many times I've read that here. I don't doubt that some of you complainers are the ones who enjoyed riding the equipment merry-go-round and perhaps made a few bucks doing so. How unfair that now there will be a cost for swapping IC's or amplifiers every six months! I have a real problem comprehending how selling a multi-thousand dollar piece of audio gear and paying a small fraction of the proceeds creates a hardship. Should one be entitled to doing that for free?
And please stop suggesting that, in any way or to any degree, this site should be commercialized. How will that give AA higher exposure or make it a better place? Why wreck another good thing? Obviously, the motivation here is not money, and that is rare and very refreshing in the USA at this time.
Peace,
Tom E

There are some very good deals on AA Trader on the tube amp section i scanned. My guess is that they don't get snapped up because the demand side of their market is so small.
The success of Audiogon is based on the fact that it has a much bigger market on both the supply and demand sides and buyers are better informed about the true market value of their equipment. While i often see gear that is priced well above what it is worth in the market, I also notice that this stuff generally doesn't sell, or gets continually re-listed.
Unrealistic price expectations on the part of sellers could well be a major source of the complaints you note.

A stake throught the heart was a figure of speech. I am not an Audiogon basher. I have been a member since 1999. But I think of them much like the NAACP and Worker's Unions. Both good organizations, but have outlived their usefulness.
Unlike the two aforementioned groups, there is still a reason for Audiogon to exist. And I am NOT anti-capitalist, much the contrary. I would just like to see this site get more of their market share.
You sir, seem wound a little tightly.

Let's not resort to personal attacks or inept, politicized metaphors. The discussion cannot proceed constructively under such conditions.
It doesn't seem logical to use such a strong figure of speech and then claim you were only kidding. I would not want to see how you support other endeavors if driving a stake through the heart can be used in a positive light. You seem as conflicted in your feelings (supporter, not a basher, yet ready to destroy) as the language in the heading of this post.
I readily, eagerly admit that my fuse is getting very short for Audiogon bitching. Isn't there any better stuff to write about?
Peace,

The post was more in support of Asylum Trader than it was an Audiogon bashing post. I apologize if it seemed otherwise.

Yep, I smell it too.
Well it should. Both were instrumental in rights for workers and people of color. Highly applauded.
Today both are nothing more than political organziations intent on either keeping the black man down, or lining pockets.
I'm glad you agree with me.

...how?
Excuse me if your logic on the subject completely eludes me as you once again inappropriately introduce your political agenda into the wrong area.
