"What Is on Voyager’s Golden Record?
From a whale song to a kiss, the time capsule sent into space in 1977 had some interesting contents:"
Well, the CD was not invented yet and, anyway, what would an alien do with a CD anyway? Look what they sent us from Earth: A bird repellent?
How did they analog encode the images?
Was it a 33 1/3 rpm?
Follow Ups:
Sony/Phillips certainly had a prototype on the compact disc (CD) circa 1977-1979. Pioneer had a prototype on the Laserdisc circa 1973. I found this info very interesting.

Part of the experience of listening to music is physical.
There nothing like "chest thump".
You can't get that with head phones.
Music is experienced with more than just our ears.
IMO you really ought to hear and "feel" the sound from those great vinyl records.

What you give up in certain areas with headphones you gain in other areas such as signal purity and not having to fool with all of that room tuning stuff. All Class A SET tubes, no crossovers to contend with. Try it, you'll like it.
The Golden Records were 33 1/3 rpm analog discs.
The package included a phono cartridge (I do not know if the brand was ever disclosed) and, believe it or not, blueprints on how to build a turntable.
You can pick up the book for peanuts on eBay.

What about blueprints for speakers, cables, and room treatments?
But the scientists also assumed that the aliens' music storage was in the neural impulses of "a squid in a polyethylene bag." Because we all know that that is "fast and bulbous."
OK, where's that from?

Who knows for certain? IIRC, prototypes were developed by Philips and
Sony independently from the mid-to-late 1970s.
Also, in the mid-1960s, Jim Russell began looking for a way to improve the
quality of recorded music. The supervisors at his lab weren’t interested
in his ideas. Then the lab was purchased by Battelle and he was given the
go-ahead. In 1973, he designed and built a prototype of the CD.
