I found myself in the Chicagoland area last Saturday, and Brian Walsh (of Essential Audio) did a specatcular demo of the Soundlab U-1PX's being driven by Atma-Sphere monoblocks (MA-2) for me that blew my socks off!Spinning discs on an AMR CD player and playing through a Bricasti DAC - I really understood what Soundlabs brings to the party (especially driven well by the OTL's!).
What was truly amazing is that with large scale orchaestral works, not only did the instruments sound right, but you could hear clearly them coming fomr the correct sections of the orchestra. If you closed your eyes to listen then opened them up, it was jarring since you were in the listening room and not a large concert hall.
I cought my flight back home knowing that Soundlab really delivers on the promise of Quad and others. Now, to attend to the "penny saving" required ...

O yes! Spent time with the U1'S and Pass also 1KW Macs and also bi-amped with Bag ends with Pass on bottoms. And the 945'S with some Swiss amps, the names slipped my mind. Utterly fantastic...........
.
To be honest my buddy with the U1'S had a few different tube units (and otl) on his SoundLabs but eventually got rid of them because they ran out of steam.

I had the same enjoyable experience last month. Business brought me to downtown Chicago for a couple of days, so one evening I hopped the train to visit. I was treated to quite a nice collection of musical pieces via his server - along with some wonderful local pizza! While I also have U-1s, mine do not have the current PX panels and don't have the same bass projection. He's able to get darn loud levels out of his system with the Atma-Sphere electronics.
The new listening room upstairs is a wonderful new space as I had visited him years ago when Dr. West attended the local audio society meeting.
One of the things that really blew me away, is that I have 2 1/2 personal experiences that level set me for electrostatics:The Quad 2805, the Martin Logan Montis and an all-too-short listen to the ML CLX.
Each have limitations, and all are really good speakers despite them. I had chalked some up to "electrostatic limitations" - but they simply weren't there with the U-1PX's. It's forcing me to go back and re-evaluate my opinion on electrostatics. I really had no idea, even though I thought the world of electrostatics.

Ralph, the speakers moved closer together and are toed in more than when you were here. Imaging and other aspects are nicely improved. You'd like it :-)

So much music, so little time!
Glad to hear those minor suggestions helped.
One reason is the full-range, crossover-less design.
"Chopped Liver, the Bricasti, it is not."

You are most welcome, Brent! I hope you get a chance to come back soon and perhaps can bring your "partner in crime" wife, who by your description, is as much into it as you are.
Can't wait to spin vinyl for you next time, too.
