As high school kids, my buddy and I used haunt the HiFi shops of Santa Monica and Westwood in the early 50s, carrying a copy of Toscanini's Pictures. The sales folk never rejected playing it on equipment we couldn't possibly afford. But the sports car dealers on Ventura boulevard also let us take out XK-120 and 140 Jags. Seems crazy in retrospect, but maybe they thought they were building a future customer base.

Didn't live here until 1977, but visited in the early 60's, the late 60's & then again in the early 70's.
Didn't get much of what I saw (while visiting) until later on, aside from the Venice Beach riots.
