They were talking about going to brick and mortar stores and getting dissed by the sales staff and the owner. They were talking about the enviroment of the store and the anti-consumer sediment. I know this is a totally different websites where opinions really differ. I would love your opinions how you are treated in stores. Thanks for reading.

Especially at Lyric: When I expressed interest in dipole speakers, they flatly refused to play Quads or Maggies for me. So when the time came to buy, I ordered from Acoustic Sounds and Music Direct and Magnepan (MMG).
Thanks for confining your idiotic trolling to this site and not mucking up other audio related sites. I am sure others will appreciate this sediment (sic)
My sediments [sic] exactly.
Sudz on AA is Taters on AudiogoN. I would not be surprised if the pollution invades other sites too.
Thanks for the scoop.
Sediment or excrement?
Cheers,
Al
And why would you believe anything on Audiogon? Site has been complete crap since change over. Anyone who shops there now is beyond foolish.
"sediment"?
Don't go there!

I simply found the construction "consumer sediment" to be very apt as it applies to audiophile types who are, IMHO, usually found feeding on the bottom.

When I frequent B&M's of any kind related to our hobby, I identify myself as a blog writer (albeit infrequently of late), and the red carpet rolls out. In other words, no Dom and fish eggs, but genuine interest in giving me an exemplary experience, and usually, an open invite for an extended future listening sesh at my convenience. I write objectively, no perfunctory asskissing, and so far, respected for my paltry contribution to our hobby.

Go to discussion groups under Amps and Preamps. Look for brick and mortar stores.
... But only by folks who don't know me personally. Otherwise it is, g'day mate.
I have found staff in audio shops to be helpful, engaging and very generous with their time and knowledge.
I have even been directed to other stores if that is a helpful solution.
Only once have I had a salesperson be a little condescending because of how I was dressed. I replied in kind by telling the guy I am the one who can afford what is in the shop and you are the guy that is here selling it. You do the math. :o)
But I think one negative experience is overwhelmingly outweighed by hundreds of very positive experiences.

I generally don't have those kinds of problems, probably because I am very up-front with sales staff. I respect their time and tell them exactly why I am there, whether I am going to buy anything or not, just looking, shopping around, etc. And, I would never feel right about taking their time if I knew in advance that I intended to purchase the same item somewhere else.Sometimes they have dumped a prima donna trip on me, which never helps anything. It has actually crossed over into being insulting, in which case I have pushed back. Whatever. I generally have a positive rapport with local hifi shops.

Don't think I've ever had a bad experience. Hanging out in Harmony House in the early 70's, going to Lyric to hear the IRS V's, or stopping in Singer for odds and ends. But I always let the salesperson know what's going on, i.e. whether I'm buying or just want to hear something for kicks that I'll probably never buy. That said, if I ever did encounter that, I'd be out of there in a second.
I get the "holier than thou" approach. It appeals to the kind of immature male who gets an erection at the thought of gigantic blue McIntosh meters. But if the sales rep thinks that is me, (s)he just isn't competent.

That reminds me of a friend of mine. He get's turned on by the blue meters. If he ever see's a hot woman it does nothing for him. I guess if chicks started walking around with blue meters on their chest they could capture the Mac crowd.
That reminds me.
Thank you
It strikes me that folks reap what they sow. I can't recall ever being treated poorly even if I tell the folks that I'm not looking to buy anything.
I also don't waste their time and buy online. If one were to do that often, I'd suspect that you might get treated poorly on the 37th visit.

I was thinking of buying velodyne 15in sub and B&W speakers from our oldest local shop I had cash in pocket ready to buy but thought best to listen to 2 pairs of B&W before purchase. I waited and waited no others in store just 2 sales staff. I walked to front of store asked for assistance they said they would get to me rudely I waited some more got sick of it so went to store front and again waited as they chit chatted with a UPS guy. I asked again they gave me the look. I flashed cash about 8k at the time they perked up and I walked. I purchased much gear over the years and later got to know owner and head sales guy but I never bought from them again. I headed to another shop and was treated great. I still buy from that shop in madison the others gone now. But was a long time ago now sales guys kiss my ass since they know I buy. Think the old judgemental snobby audio shops pretty much gone today and that might be a good thing.
Paul Heath on N. Clark St. in Chicago was sort of like that. If you walked in and weren't dressed to the nines you might well be ignored. Word got around and finally they were gone. A few others have gone by the wayside or are about to.
Qualifying customers is one thing, but there's no excuse for rudeness. Treat people in kind and always give them a positive experience. Karma comes around.

So much music, so little time!
Your a player dog. You are running an Audio website. Of course they aren't going to kick you to the curb. If they did you would be on here screaming bloody murder.
Rudimentary spelling and grammar seems to be lacking for some.

What do you think? That I'd wear all Audio Asylum logoed gear and tell sales people that I'm an important person?
I'm just not that kind of arrogant jerk though my wife might claim otherwise.

I figure you park your car in the VIP space and once that see that 458 with the custom Hre's they know you are a player. Then you drop your card will the amount of hit's you get a day and there rolling out the Dom and caviar. I'm not a big boy but I do know how you players roll.
"I'm not a big boy [player?] but I do know how you players roll."
Even if you watch fair amount of reality TV, that does not count in context of this discussion. You might be able to stay on point if you curtail this obsession you have with the wealth of others. Of course, this would mean conceding many of the arguments you pose.
If you covet respect, start by making an effort to understand what passes as experienced knowledge {player?}, here.
but you're playing stereotypes more than you're playing your stereo.

of playing the language barrier "card" (the one you've played many times in the past).Edit:
Are you Larry/Laurence who once had a moniker that included the word"audiophile"?
Anyway, you remind me of him.

As high school kids, my buddy and I used haunt the HiFi shops of Santa Monica and Westwood in the early 50s, carrying a copy of Toscanini's Pictures. The sales folk never rejected playing it on equipment we couldn't possibly afford. But the sports car dealers on Ventura boulevard also let us take out XK-120 and 140 Jags. Seems crazy in retrospect, but maybe they thought they were building a future customer base.

Didn't live here until 1977, but visited in the early 60's, the late 60's & then again in the early 70's.
Didn't get much of what I saw (while visiting) until later on, aside from the Venice Beach riots.

I'm not kidding over the years the majority of "customers" I've met at audio shops end up buying crap at the big box or mail order thing or nothing at all.
I hate this shit - then those same people come here and whine about not being treated like kings when they go to an audio salon.
Dealers can spot that BS a mile away. Why the F should they waste their time on some bozo who's not gonna buy or not gonna buy unless they get some big discount?
Yea sure I've been dis'd at a shop or two myself. Some shops just don't care to deal with people like us. I don't blame em.
Give me rhythm or give me death!
I agree with you. They can see the tire kickers from miles away!
