thinking here of sudz's latest generality question of musicians and below-par hi-fi systems but that's just an example and this is not about sudz or his posts in the least. i wonder why people refuse to wonder about people and behavior and if there is a link/connection for ""most"" (a generality). if there is a connection of, say, 70%, that would seem of interest. furthermore, it's not just a numerical fact either: desire can also be seen to show a tendency in one direction or other eg - using sudz's question - if musicians or studio engineers or whoever state a lack of interest in high-end systems. suppose a thread was posted on a pharmacy forum and it asked if pharmacists use medications more than the mass public? would that question get attacked too?
thanks for interest.

I figure it's called an Asylum for a reason. Plenty of diversity. It's a colorful place, not to be taken to seriously and as far as I know, none of the attacks have proved life threatening. Then there is always don't read or respond to posts you don't like. :^)
I use sudz to wash my clothes.
Some people at AA just enjoy piling on others for their amusement. That's all.
Political correctness is way overrated. It seems like your just not "allowed" to say anything that isn't bland safe and nice, have an opinion or hurt someones feelings. Well the hell with that! I can't conform to that liberal world I tell ya. PC has got to go and people need to grow a pair again , rise up and be heard, Capish ? ..............IMHO of course :^)
Now where did I leave that glass of water and my Xanax ? :^)
...as a pharmacist, the question was usually which profession abuses drugs more vs alcohol - pharmacists or doctors.
Anyway the questions are more of a rhetorical or philosophical nature and sudz just trolls with them.
A more established, better respected poster would probably get a different response.
I would say here about 30% find sudz questions interesting and the other 70% make fun.
Post that kind of stuff at your own risk.
I know I'm in the minority here, but it seems that no matter what Sudz posts, somebody will jump all over him for it.
Such behavior does not reflect well on the forum, IMO.
IME, true trolls post much more on much more incendiery topics than whether or not musicians have worse-than-average stereos (for example). I could think of 5 or 6 topics straight away if I were just trying to get a reaction from people.
At least he's trying to stimulate some discussion, about something. The grumpiness of the reactions to him I think show something unfortunate about the audiophile demographic.
Like I said in my last thread audio websites can vary greatly in opinion. Where some here think I'm a troll on other sites I never get that reaction.
People on some sites have a tendency to over react. I always try to stay calm and focused. You never see me getting angry or hostile. If people don't like what I have to say that's fine. I realize people have differences in opinion. If they have the need to attack me that is a reflection on them not me.
Sudz is the Bose 901 of posters. People are unkind to him. So what if he is somewhat awkward. Audio is only about a damned record player anyway. Relax.
Please don't compare me to Bose. That is the ultimate put down.
Why care about what kind of posts there are...if you want to read them - fine - if not - move on.
"Why care about what kind of posts there are...if you want to read them -fine - if not - move on."
Easily said. The way the forums are outlined inmates become instinctly judgemental of where topics belong (topic critics?). As such, you're not being moderate or realistic.
"Easily said."
Easily done.
Take our posts for examples. Where is the self-restraint? My excuse was in my post or of posters in any aforementioned thread.
"Easily done."
To not be realistic? That's a problem within itself. Stagnation, possibly the impediment of progress.
your only excuse is immaturity based on impulse response.

The complainers may be Ayn Rand types who see themselves as completely independant individuals.
Observe, before you think
(though sometimes accepted elsewhere?)
especially when certain generalities are used to bolster a particularly unpopular subject/stance
(audiophile=snob, UHE=ridiculous prices, cables make a difference, musicians have lousy systems.etc.).
I've seen these generalities attacked when posted by others. Of course it depends on how its presented
(phrased) in the post too.
At this point with Sudz, he tends to overshadow any possible pertinent subject he might broach (that'll be the day! - see?)
just due to his tedious, repetitive, and inane history of postings and lack of engagement in them once posted.
Remember too that MOST of his posts have been deleted at this point, so it's difficult to use any of them to make
a hard case against his history of... repetition, so I'm speaking in generalities here.
BTW: I've only personally known one pharmacist, and HE sure did.

I was once at an AMA conference (not an attendee) for impaired physicians.
The problem is, as I've stated before, that Sudz has a history, and people remember that--and can't separate the history from the individual post. As such, his posts become more about Sudz (the phenomenon!) than any issue he is addressing. In addition, he hasn't helped himself by his general inclination to not actively interact with others, and to answer others questions. It appears to me he has gotten somewhat better at this, but other things (like not posting his system in his profile) have been frustrating for many inmates. His posts thus seem to have a trolling (if perhaps even innocent) quality to them. The topics he brings up are fine, I think, though some have also claimed he has repeated them, which projects more of a trolling nature. It is, indeed, an odd situation, and I find it unfortunate that "General" has become his playground, so to speak.

Committee for Surrealist Investigation of Claims of the Normal
"The average Canadian has one testicle, just like Adolph Hitler -- or, more precisely, the average Canadian has 0.96 testicles, an even sadder plight than Hitler's, if the average Anything actually existed."
"The normal or average human lives in substandard housing in Asia, has 1.04 vaginas, and 0.96 Testicles, (italics added for clarity) cannot read or write, suffers from malnutrition and never heard of Silken Thomas Fitzgerald or Brian Boru."
"The normal, consists of a null set which nobody and nothing really fits."
"The normal does not exist. The average does not exist. We know only a very large but probably finite phalanx of discrete space-time events encountered and endured."
"The normal having vanished, most generalizations, especially about nonmathematical groups, disappear along with it."
"The monorchoid Mr. Hitler, for instance, could not generalize about "the Jews", because first he would have to find a normal or average Jew, which appears as intracible to demonstration as exhibiting the Ideal Platonic Jew (or the Ideal Platonic Chicken Farm complete with Ideal Platonic Chickenshit.)."
"To say it otherwise, world Jewish population stood at about 10 million when Hitler formed his generalizations. He could not possibly have known more than at maximum about 500 of them well enough to generalize about them; considering his early prejudices, he probably knew a lot less than that. But taking 500 as a high estimate, we find he generalized about 10 million individual persons on the basis of knowledge limited to around 1/20,000 or 0.005 % of them."
"It seems, then, that Naziism could not have existed, if Hitler knew the difference between norms or averages (internal estimates, subject to error due to incomplete research or personal prejudice) and the phalanx of discrete nonnormal events and things (including persons) that we find in the sensory space-time continuum outside."

However I'm not quite sure after reading whether it's 'pro-Sudz' or 'anti-Sudz'..I personally think when a reader gradually begins to learn more about the "poster" (ie 'Sudz') more than the actual post itself, it becomes counter-productive, perhaps even so distractful that you begin to lose interest in the subject matter itself...and thats a shame IMO.
