Hi,
I'm replacing an AVR that died and want to start using my Adcom GFA 6000 again. Looking to buy a refurb AVR to use as a pre-amp now and then later, use it full featured to drive my basement system. I am listening to B&W Matrix 805s.
The Denon 3312ci is $150 less expensive and has a 1 yr warranty.
The Marantz SR 6006 costs more, has a 2-yr warranty, and a phono input section that the Denon doesn't.
I will buy with AMEX and get an additional year of warranty at no cost on either unit.
Does the Marantz pre amp sound better, or is the quality of build different enough to justify the extra cash?
Reviews I have read have mentioned that the Marantz is in a slightly different class, approaching an "audiophile" piece of gear for a receiver. Perception or reality?
Thank you for your opinions.

I don't know what price you found the Denon at, but here's a link to a site that sells refurbished Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, and other brands you might be interested in perusing. The link is to the page for the Denon 3312. Use it as a jumping-off point to investigate other options.I'm not sure I'd trust something mechanical (like a DVD player) being factory refurbished, but for receivers or amps it seems like a chance worth taking to save significant cash or even upgrade to a better unit. I bought an Onkyo PR-SC5508 from Accessories4Less 6 months ago and couldn't be happier. Delivery was quick, it came with all the proper accessories and no cosmetic defects, and it has performed flawlessly.
A warning though: Their prices fluctuate, sometimes daily. I got my PR-SC5508 for $1399; it is now listed at $1499 and I've seen it listed as high as $1549. It probably depends on how many they have left in stock. So if you see a good price on something, better jump on it because it might be significantly higher later in the day.

Yep,
Buying it from the same place, Accessories4less. The Marantz comes with 2 HDMI Cables but still is $150 more. The guys at AVS Forum have ripped these units open and posted pics, seem to be the same so I will go with the Denon.
As before, you're welcome.
They were shocked at the build quality and price. They said they appeared to be the equal of the Audioquests they'd tried to sell me for $80 (no thnx).
On the minus side, the newest cables aren't very flexible. You have to be careful they're not coming into the HDMI input at a 45 degr. or greater angle as they WILL stress the connection. Having said that, they're a superb value for the $$$

Sweet.
Any particular brand name or classification of cable? I looked at the site and saw several differnt qualities, listed as 24 or 22AWG? Which are the most current?
Not sureof the model # for ya so I went to their website and I'm pretty sure it's this one, at, cables> video cables-HDMI:ID 3961, 10'. ($10.66),
(I might have gotten the 15' one, it's been snaked up thru in my wall to the wall mounted plasma so I can't pull it out to check.)I also bought some 6' ones for Blu Ray to Receiver connection, Cable Box to receiver, etc...
