They're Steampunk muff diving goggles.
as an audiophile's bra. Small cup side of course but with big mono volume attenuator knobs. :-)
There appears to be insufficient space within the goggles to house the necessary "electronics" to run the tubes. It also appears the "glow" is not from the tube's internal filament but an LED beneath the base.
.
So my first guess would have been Flamethrower, as that seems to be a pretty good way too, albeit a bit messy perhaps. (But then I thought that it would probably be a one time event in a person's lifetime, so that might eliminate it from contention for being the "best way" to set your eyebrows on fire. That and the fact that not only would your eyebrows go up in flames, but pretty much the entire facial region.)
So my second guess would be Bic lighter, (having had similar experiences at concerts while trying to light certain types of cigarettes).
;-)

No joke. I'm almost positive what these are. Has anyone heard of the Steam Punk movement.
I only know about it since my sister is heavily involved in it and in fact designs jewelry with a Punk Rock motif. She also sells her Steam Punk jewelry on the Etsy Web site The Steam Punk movement is an exaggerated reenactment of the clothing styles, machinery, electronic gadgets, inventions of the turn of the century. I think these goggles are a fantasy representation
from this era.

Punk rock was an uprising, and anarchy against an establishment, especially in the UK. When an economic downturn and austerity moves on the part of the prevailing governments meant many youths had no means of employment. The music and movement were ways to vent their rage against the establishment.
Steampunk on the other hand is an art movement that embraces early industrial revolution motifs.
Quiet different.
Right, Uncle Mike. I must have had a senior moment and confused Punk Rock with the Steampunk world. There is no resemblance. I'm a tad embarrassed over my goof-up.
I've never felt the whole Punk Rock thing had any merit at all. Other than looking mean and angry, having spiked hair and body parts and screaming a lot there was nothing there there.
It's dissapointing to see that punk rock is viewed as a fashion statement.......
Although the goggles in question are Steam Punk, which is entirely different from punk rock, I have to ask: When has punk rock NOT been, to at least some degree, a fashion statement? The Sex Pistols were specifically put together by McLaren as a fashion statement.
Purists always try to make it only about the music, but music and fashion have always gone hand in hand. Elvis was into clothes as much as music, and every one of Bowie's incarnations has had a fashion element, just as a couple of examples.
Mods, greasers, ripped shirts, safety pins, spandex, flannel shirts -- it's been the same story from 1956 until now.
It's rare that you will even find anyone that has heard of Steam Punk. It's not exactly a major sub-culture like the hippies were in the 60s. While I only know about it through my sister who is in her late 50s, I gather these are folks who have somehow formed a loosely knit social community and enjoy masquerading as people from a bygone age. Strange contraptions, gears and social gatherings in costume seem to highlight their activities. I get the sense that SP is rather harmless and attracts people who don't fit into the mainstream of society.

It's becoming a rather prominent sub-genre of science fiction, typically set in an "alternate" 19th century universe and based on the way Victorian era technology "might have" evolved. Primary inspirations are HG Wells and Jules Verne, with nods to other writers of the era who dabbled in "futuristic" speculation.
You're right. Very Wells and Verneish with a hint of Mr. Toad's wild ride.
You wouldn't believe the outfits my sister and her husband wear for Steampunk events.
She goes by the SP name of Maisey Teasworthy and her husband is Rupert.
You keep calling it punk rock when it's steampunk. It's hard for you to sound informed on the subject you keep misidentifying it.
Chad
Sorry Chad. Of course it's Steam Punk. Not sure what I was thinking. My sister, the Steam Punk queen would never forgive me. Thanks for the correction.
You are entirely welcome.
Chad
Steampunk ? That's what I was thinking.
Yep, my sister and her husband have become heavily into that in the Seattle area and
thus I've become fairly acquainted with this weirdness. You wouldn't believe some of their
costumes and the names they give themselves. I guess it's harmless though.
??
Wearing those goggles when sitting the the listening postion, allow for a
true holographic 3d experience that all asylum members are trying to achieve. I believe those wimpy pre-amp looking tubes should be swapped for some 1930s 300b power tubes for complete zen. You can then listen to even a
transistor radio and forget about spending ridiculous amounts of money on
gear and enjoy Justin Beiber.
