+HELP! I am hoping that the informed members of this forum can help me Ihave /an older(10 Years)home theater system a yamaha rx-v596 reciever with energy e-al 26b1 speakers. the system works fine for movies and general listening. where I am having trouble is me and my friends have taken to playing rock-band on a ps3, we tend to play at a very high volume. I have allready blown 1 set of tweaters, and the amp runs hot very hot and has shut down on occasion. some one suggested I buy a pair of powered pa speakers. after doing some research, I dont feel this is the best option, plus they look like shit, any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRIECIATED. my budget is $1000-$1500 THANK YOU
help!

Don't ruin your hearing playing games. It's way more valuable than that.
Freedom is the right to discipline yourself.
1) Mackie HR824Mk2 is a self amplified studio monitor that will play WFL and take any abuse you and your bandmates throw at it.

1350 per pair.
2) Cerwin Vega XLS 215 for about 1200 per pair are passive speakers that are quite efficient and also play WFL but you'll need your Yamaha to run them.
Google both.
Then Google the previous Cerwin Vegas CLS 215 and find reviews by Robert E Greene in AV Guide and the Soundsstage! reviews and be prepared to be surprised by their Hi Fi credibility!
thanks to everyone for their help. if I use the mackies or I was thinking of some self poered jbl would my yamaha run these or would I have to buy additional equipment. it was suggested I would need an equilizer/signal proccessor.
Best wishes.
I like home theater too but I play it different. I use identical amps with speakers stacked in the corners.I will always use 2 amps if I want more sound I have 3 more amps that I can turn on.I get louder sound at lower volume.my amps are close to 10 yrs old too.my amps volumes go to 80 my loud volume is around 30 to 40.any way good luck with playing loud music. I like it loud too.

I agree with "KnobSpinner"- you need some high efficiency speakers that can blast with the power you have on hand (short of recommending a new receiver). Go with his suggestion, sit back, and play some R-band!!!

Buy a pair of Klipsch Heresys
