I was an Audiogon advertiser for nearly 10 years, and spent 10's of thousands of dollars during this time. They have lost my business for the reasons below. I would urge other advertisers to check over their statements to ensure accuracy, and that they're getting what they actually paid for. Here's my story:Despite my numerous requests for an Audiogon rep to call me and answer some questions about their new partner program (one I found precious few details about, and clear as mud)- they apparently didn't think an advertiser who spent 10k's of dollars over the years was worth the time/effort to place that call. My main concern was having to pay $250 month for the privilege to then actually buy advertising banners (for additional $$). No one could explain to me what I was really getting for the $250 per month, of tangible value.
OK- no problem, I asked Jessica to remove me from their "partner program" effective 12-22-11, and to NOT debit my CC from that point forward. This request was acknowledged by Jessica. On January 11th, lo and behold... an unauthorized $250 charge was made. I sent an e-mail to Jessica alerting to the unauthorized charge, and she apologized for the mistake, and mentioned the charge would be removed. OK- mistakes happen.
During this time, I also noticed something unusual, after the Agon site switched to the new "improved" format. My banner report showed about 1% of the impressions I previously experienced. The ads clearly weren't being displayed correctly, based on this report, and I questioned why this was happening. I was told on 1-12 (by Jessica) that they would look into this and get back to me. Crickets have been chirping on this issue ever since, despite my follow-up requests on 1-17-12 and 1-23-12. There has been no communication from Audiogon since 1-12-12. That was 30 days ago.
My last e-mail communication to them on 1-23-12 was:
I still have received no follow-up to this, and it is clear the banners are not being displayed as they ought to be. Look at the # of impressions since Jan 8th vs. pre- Jan 8th (see attached) [attached the pdf file I had created of my ad tracking report]
I am requesting a full refund, or pro-rata refund equal to the amount of deviation from the approximate CPM before this new system was put into place and the poor CPM I'm getting with the new system.
Failure to rectify this on a timely basis will leave me no choice but to contact my credit card company to reverse the charge. I didn't get the service I paid for.
Last week, I found yet ANOTHER charge was made to my credit card on 2-4-12 for $250. That was enough... I finally called my credit card company to have the charge tagged as unauthorized and reversed, cancel/reissue the credit card, and also initiated a dispute for $137.00 - the amount of banner advertising that had been purchased, but seemingly wasn't being displayed to a remotely similar eyeball count, previous to their site switchover. The CC company wanted to contact Audiogon via phone (while I was on the line) to see if this could be resolved. I agreed, and in fact said "good luck", since it would appear Audiogon is allergic to telephone communication. I was informed the number provided to the CC company wasn't in service. A formal dispute for this amount has subsequently been made.
Honest mistakes happen, but this most recent pattern of negligence and disdain won't be overlooked any longer.
Audiogon- get your act together, or you risk REALLY being "gone"...

Hello ChrisVH,
I, too, have enjoyed Audiogon since it arrived on the net scene.
It is unclear to me why these guys changed their website?
Appears they have changed their biz practices as well?
It's just a mess.

Yes, a big mess indeed. It is interesting to note that Videogon has not changed its site. Does the owners of A'gon also own V'gon?
I have no idea.

more app errors tonight... : (
Thanks for posting this. I knew Audiogon had gotten buggy since the site overhaul, but this is enough to keep me away for good. I'm a dealer and had planned on posting a few liquidation items there, and I think I'll stay the heck away now. I'm posting them here.

Just wondering if anyone has tried theaudioxchange.com? They've been around for quite a few years and my company hosts their website which is built on a solid classified ads platform. If anyone has any constructive comments on how theaudioxchange.com can serve the needs of us audiophiles, I can pass them on to the owner.

this is probably worth posting as a new thread. its not likely to attract much attention buried deep down in this thread.

had gone after 2008. Looks like AG is putting them to use.
Honestly!
Why dosnt someone start up something similar to the old Agon and
make sure its done right!
BTW...If someone does start something like this up be sure to let everyone
here know!
I can make some pretty sophisticated software - my current site here has a lot of facets as a hockey pool manager. Try the demo but please don't create pools unless you plan to use them (Canadians, eh?). The prior site I ran and sold had 225,000 logins per day, so I know how to deal with volume.
How about this for a URL- audiogonegonegone.com ?
Wish I wasn't so heavily invovled in my current site right now, or I'd start on this today. As I already have extensive API libraries of my own custom making, I could get something going pretty quickly with high quality.
If there's a serious group who wants to allocate shares and do this thing, I'm in.
Religion is the world's oldest profession
because my info is screwed up and (seemingly) can not be fixed...
stupid Agon!

thanks anyway...
posted my first classified on AA today!
Here and ebay is the place for me.
Sorry for all your problems, but seems that the past 4 or so years that Audiogon has been in a downward spiral.
I quit listing on the site a few years ago and rarely went there.
I recently decided to give them another chance, and I listed a couple items for sale, both using the deluxe $20 listing service.
I let both ads run the 30 day cycle and did not accept any offers less than I was listing the items for.
On one offer, it was obviously a "scam" from a guy supposedly in Russia, which I did not even answer, as I did with a couple others, as a no-answer is the same as a turn down..no need to answer offers, and the only way an agreement to buy/sell could be made was through me.
The same time my ad expried,
I recieved a "robot message" from Audiogon stating: "Classified ended with no win to seller" and the bulk of the message explained that: "Unfortunately, your listing “name of item” expired with no suitable bids or offers. Please follow this link to re-list your item or visit your expired table in your Mypage.
Thanks,
Team Audiogon"
I then went to my expired ad to re-list, and to my shock I found that they had it listed as "sold"...and to the Russian scamer!
I sent a message right away to Audiogon through there automated messaging service, as you can no longer email directly... I recieved no response.
I then sent another message, stating that they have a hacking or virus problem, as I have read on a couple other forums that people are reporting virus problems from Audiogon...I added copies for there viewing...and still, after another 3 messages I have not gotten even 1 response!
I would also like to start advertising a couple pieces of equipment and I also have thousands of records I would like to sell, maybe we could get this going on AA, at least it would be much more fair and would benifit a great website.
It's all about the music!
....you have always been a solid, upstanding part of the audio community. AudiogoN used to be too, but they have gone over to the dark side. I am but a humble audiophile, but AduiogoN seems to have stolen $85 from me the same way they did as Kloss explains below. I thought they were just pissing on the peons, but it seems like they are pissing on everyone now. The terrorists have won and assumed control over AudiogoN. F'em.
.
Audiogon is only good for one thing anymore, and that is to attract audiophile buyers. If I were you I might advertise on Audiogon but I would not sell there. Instead, I would use their site to post links to my items on ebay (or some other more secure marketplace).

I would imagine other retail sellers are having the same problem and will follow in your footsteps saying adios to Agon.
You've been there and been loyal. It doesn't sound like they will take their heads out if the sand and fix the problems. It's time to deliver the knockout punch and use the other tools available on the Internet and totally boycott them. If we stick to our guns no one will still be able to say "yes but they are the biggest, I have to use them".
Who is up to the challenge?

I just posted a link to the AA Trader section on my personal and company Facebook page, as well as Twitter and Linkedin. I'd ask everyone who feels passionate about this to do the same through whatever social media they prefer- even if just private e-mails giving a "heads-up" to your buddies that this is THE place to be be for free classifieds. Now Rod just needs to figure out how to maneuver whatever inevitable growing pains will occur. Legit (uncensored) user feedback, and some sort of binding arbitration (adminned by the AA community?) system might be beneficial. Just my .01.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. If they do this to the hand that feeds them imagine how they view the run of the mill members.
As far as I'm concerned they are gone.
Wish I could do a charge back on my account. I placed funds in it to pay adds and %. But Agon changed the game said now only for paying %, but since I will not place anymore adds and they will not refund I'm out of luck...But I see your a semi local to me and I need some connectors so look for a order soon.
You didn't say how you funded your AgoN account, but if you used PP, and it's been under 90 days, just open up a dispute through PP, explaining, as I did, about the rule switch, which of course amounts to fraud. Agon has (I think) 30 days to refund your money and if you haven't received your refund, then you can 'elevate' it to a full claim; (and you'll get a letter from PP a week ahead of time) at which point PP takes it under review and then they make the decision -- which I have a pretty good idea will be in all our favor, if PP keeps getting the same story from hundreds of people ;--)
No PP stupidly used debit.
I had a recent problem with a seller sending items I paid for. I e-mailed Audiogon for assistance and received no reply. Nothing.
