Here's how these situations are handled in "the real world":_______________________________________________________
I wondered why these visitors hoped for a Mossberg endorsement... And why were P.R. people rather than product designers making the pitch? As Mossberg inspected the phone, he asked his visitors when the phone was to launch. April 1st, he was told.
“What if I wanted to do the first review?”
“We’d love that,” Mermelstein said. “I’d love to give you the first review, because I know that, of all the reviewers, you’d be the most fair.” She said that they planned to exhibit the UpStage at an electronics show in late March.
“I’m not promising you a puff piece,” Mossberg said.

Hey! Maybe things are more *honest* in audio?

But the article then goes on to say that Mossberg later printed the same criticisms that he made in the original meeting. Sounds like he is at least as honest as, oh, say, Positive Feedback, where they make a point of NOT printing comments of reviewers who didn't care for a piece of equipment because it didn't match their equipment or their tastes.
The passages quoted or summarized of the review he wrote seem to me much more straightforward than what I read in audio mags and zines for the most part.
