I travel quite a bit for business. My MP3 player helps keep me sane while on the road. My Emtymotics ER6 earphones are great for the plane but I prefer speakers for the hotel room.I'm interested in what others use as portable speakers. Is there anything good out there that is relly portable?
I've used SI flat panels and a neXXtech clam shell thing I've seen sold under other names. Both pack well and sound much better than my laptop but that's not saying much.
I'm not expecting the performance I get at home but would certainly be willing to spend money and/or DIY time to find a better solution.
Follow Ups:
It is small enough to fit in my computer bag but sounds surprisingly good. I also get better results when it’s slightly Media Player bass enhanced. You’d think with all the MP3 device popularity, there’d be more options to choose from.

like sennheiser
Unless your travels keep you away from home for an extended amount of time, I don't think it's practical to set up a decent pair of speakers in the hotel room. I travel light and would never consider hauling speakers around with me. My headphones are relatively inexpensive Sony units that I've had for 10 years. They fold up for easy storage. My Palm PDA with a couple 512mb SD memory cards perform double duty as my mp3 player.... (and TV remote control).Palm PDA as a MP3 player
Palm PDA as a universal learning remote

Fun interactive color activity for toddlers: http://www.color-cube.5u.comParents who have young children who are interested in computers may like to try this interactive color cube. My DD who is 10 months loves to sit in my lap and move the mouse over the colors and watch the background change color. It also helps if you talk to your child about the colors by referring to objects around the house that are the same colors. http://www.color-cube.5u.com

That's a neat trick.

You don't always have to listen to music. In fact, you shouldn't listen to too much music just as you don't constantly stuff your face with food, but rather build an appetite and partake sparingly enough that the sensation of eating remains pleasant instead of a mere compulsion. (I'm assuming you don't weigh 500 lbs)When you are alone in a hotel room on business take advantage of a rare opportunity for uninterupted silence. Read a book. Decompress, rest and reflect. Or sleep. You shouldn't have to constantly stuff your ears with music to keep yourself "sane". When you return from your trips, you'll relish the opportunity to listen to your favorite music with fresh ears.
By all means, listen to music when you travel - LIVE music. If you're traveling to a city of any size, it will likely have a symphony orchestra, chamber group, jazz and/or blues venues, etc. Take advantage of them! When you go, go to enjoy the music, not to "calibrate your ears" (barf), or to reinforce your experienced listener resume so as to "win" more audio arm wrestling contests later. Just open up to the music and go.
And yes, skipping the audio and tv and reading a good book is a good idea, too.
Keep your ears and your mind open.

that they don't sound that good. Muddy bass and way too much of it. I prefer my own DIY's, thank you.
...as I have no plans (nor the funds!) to buy them. ;-)

KNOW they didn't assemble them in the room, so they MUST be portable.
