...I have yet to see the April Stereophile on the newstand at any of the local Borders or Barnes & Nobles outlets. And yet the 2nd issue of the new big format Absolute Sound has been on the shelf for a few weeks. Is there a shift in the balance of power happening here... ??

I don't know about "Stereophile" but "The Absolute Sound" just about went under, I hope they can keep their feet on the ground. I miss the l970-80's TAS with their fine graphic art covers. Does anyone know if "Audio Amateur" still exists?
Audio Amateur is now Audio Electronics
I still haven't received my sub issue yet. One can only hope that Listener goes to 6 issues a year sometime...
I've been in about 10 airports in the past 2 weeks and no Stereophile. I've been forced to read literature.
there somewhere. I've been to a Virgin Megastore and a Barnes & Noble and have seen the April issue in both these places. It may be that Stereophile is sold out in your local stores?!?! This could be a first. I even read a Feb 99 issue of Fi mag at the Virgin Megastore in downtown SF this past weekend.
I found one at the Barnes and Noble in Dallas last weekend. I must admit that different B&N seem to stock differntly. I have found some of them that don't stock any audio mags at all but had mags for TACTICAL KNIFE FIGHTING!! I didn't know there was such a market for them.
No, these were places that always carry the mag. But tactical knife fighting, huh? Might have to check that one out as a complement to my Soldier of Fortune subcsription ;-)

What's really curious is that I received my subscription issue at home BEFORE it appeared at Barnes&Noble, etc. Usually, it comes about 2 weeks after it appears at stores.
I picked up the April edition of Sphile last Saturday. Here in Geneva. Hehehe.
Unfortunately, it cost me 20 SF ($13.00 US). ;^(
