In Reply to: Has anyone A-B compared audio racks? posted by Matthew G. on October 02, 2002 at 07:28:31:
I have never A/B racks but I just swaped my Zoethecus amp stands for Machina Dynamica Promethean's. The difference was easily noticable, hence the change was a no-brainer. Speaking from my experience (amp)stands do influence the sound of the system. So I would then assume that component racks impart a signature on the sound. Before you go through the hassle of finding a new rack you should try some different isolation products and see if they fix the problem. I have a Symposium Svelte Shelf and Rollerblocks under my phono stage. The system sounds "mushier" when the component is not isolated. Any dealer worth his salt will let you take home isolation devises to see if they work. I'd be willing to bet that an inexpensive Bright Star shelf and/or Rollerblocks, etc will help. Good luck.

I'm trying to choose between these two. Any experience comparing the two?
Which component(s) are you planning on using it for?I have my amps on the Promethean's and my phono stage on the shelf, so no, I have never compared the two using the same source. Without a doubt, the Promethean isolates a tube amp better from both ground and airborne vibrations due to the springs it rests on. If you are looking to isolate electronics check out the Nimbus. It's rather expensive but seems to a very well built and interesting design. I'm anxious to try one under my phono stage.
