....growing up in LA/S.Calif, Denver is pretty lame so I listen mostly to CD's and very occasional FM just for the background noise.
Good station, new frequency with no interference, and new equipment. A serious music station.
WWFM, 89.1 Trenton, N.J. Great classical. No commercials, no talk, little news. And you won't hear Bizet's L'elsian(?) suite or other classical pop 4 times a day. Also broadcasts from other transmitters in Jersey, Pa. and Colorado.
Check these out:WZRD - www.wzrd.org : Northeastern Univ., Chicago, IL.
Not on all the time and very hit or miss but when they hit the groove there's no better station for variety.
These guys play everything and anything.WNUR - www.wnur.org : Northwestern Univ., Evanston, IL.
Jazz in the morning, world music around noon rock after 2 pm, hip hop after 9:30 pm. Great mix of stuff.WLUW - www.wluw.org : Loyola Univ., Chicago, IL.
Used to be top 40 dance several years ago, but got their act together and now play a good line up of alternative rock.WDCB - www.wdcb.org : College of Du Page County, Glen Ellyn, IL.
Jazz until 6 pm, new until 7 pm, Country until 10 pm of midnight and then jazz, jazz and more jazz. Really good stuff.WBEZ - www.wbez.org : NPR in Chicago
News all day until 8 pm, then it's jazz. Good stuff too. After midnight I think they play R&B. Good night time station. There it is. There are good stations to listen to in Chicago, you just gotta know where to listen.
Enjoy.
Agree with WDCB and WBEZ. WDCB has no advertising of any kind, a rarity in this day and age. Had some interesting comments and discussion at our last meeting as one of our members demonstrated his Fisher 200B and homebrew tube AM tuner, mentioning certain programs on stations such as WFMT that are still good, despite changes at the station including signal compression. PC, you might want to come to a meeting sometime and find out what we're about. Drop me a line if you'd like more info, or visit our website. Sorry if this to sounds like a sales pitch, just thought you might be the kind who'd enjoy the club. It's a pretty laid back group.
Here ya go.WZRD 88.3 - www.wzrd.org
WNUR 89.3 - www.wnur.org
WLUW 88.7 - www.wluw.org
WDCB 90.9 - www.wdcb.org
WBEZ 91.5 - www.wbez.orgAgain, Enjoy.

It is one of the finest Jazz stations in the nation, bar none. My sister who has been back East for 15 years, still prefers it to just bout anything they've got. And my brother in San francisco also agrees. I think they both tune into the web-broadcasts. Or it may be syndicated like KUSC for classical.
nt
..and they still have old Silver Throat, Chuck Niles, who goes back to KBCA days
NPR in SF, Ca.
great jazz, latin, african music. good uncompressed signal, too. true a-phile-approved sound w/a tuna that's up to the task.doug s.
WMBR (88.1) has a little of everything and it is THE antidote to commercial radio. Blues, Country, Rockabilly, Soul, Punk, Latin, African, Reggae, Gothic, Alternative, Jazz of every flavor, and the best oldies I've ever heard from noon to 2pm weekdays. This station plays all the great music that the others leave off their playlist. This may be the best radio station left in America.
Afternoon to late; all black music; reggae, African pop, R+B jukebox, gospel, mod urban ballads. One authentic show after another. These guys know their stuff. If I'm available that's my whole musical Sunday.
Except "Sunday Morning Country" on ZBC.
Nearly 20+ hrs/day of REAL jazz (not smooth jazz)plus a smattering of folk, blues, other eclectic, NPR syndicated jazz programs. No classical. Can also hear on www.wicn.org. Probably has the most jazz programming in Central & Eastern MA region (beats out WGBH by a long shot IMO). Major downside - excellent but still relatively weak signal (compared to WGBH's 100k watts) makes it difficult to receive well outside Central MA/MetroWest area.
Tried KUVO

Here's another vote for WBGO in Newark, NJ, which means it pretty much covers the NY Metro area. Great jazz station and it has drummer Kenny Washington as one of its DJs. When I travel to that area, the very first thing I do when I get in the rental car is tune to this station (88.3, as I recall) and leave it there. Here in Kansas City-home of the American Jazz Museum, for crying out loud!-we sadly have very little jazz on the air anymore, since our NPR outlet went classical and the station from Central Missouri State U. in Warrensburg, MO, is just far enough away to make reception iffy at best

Ditto here. I pick them up off the air from the Vancouver BC area.
Also available from the local cable but I like the sound off the air better.
Listening to them right now and smiling as usuyal. Try them on the web if you can't get them locally - http://www.kplu.org
Real jazz, including vinyl. The station is owned by the Milw public school system. It features jazz 22 hours and two hours of Echos Mon - Sat. On Sunday they run ethnic programs. It is all live DJs, except for 11pm - 5:30am they broadcast Bob Parlocha a syndicated show via satellite. All the announcers are jazz fanatics, play a wide range of music, and often bring in their own music to play. I doubt that they are available on the internet, but if you ever get to Milwaukee, give it a listen.

Classical in the morning
News in the Afternoon
Jazz all night (7pm-5am)
on the weekends some cool world and folk music
and of course "Blues After Hours" on friday and saturday evenings...
They play a mix of rock, celtic, irish, blues, world, etc. Truly a great FM station that reaches out to the tri-state area.
Incredible variety with an emphasis on live and obscure.
Realtime updtaed playlists.
I get on the FM dial to and from work.

if you don't mind supporting trojans ;)great, great station.
I knew the station existed, but really could have cared less. Now I spend the majority of my radio bound music time split between KLON for jazz and KUSC for classical.BTW, I was at the SC/Oregon baskketball game last week. Sucks to lose, but I still have high hopes(and tickets) for the Pac-10 tourney.
KPLU in Seattle- Tacoma. Streaming on www.kplu.org.
Re: KFOG San Francisco! 104.5
Possibly the finest broadcast quality in the country. This station has a long list of "firsts" when it comes to upgrading broadcast components and types of media used. Still rely heavily on vinyl and even have well respected audiophiles such as reviewer / columnist Rich Warren working as DJ's there. Sean

Nothing beats KCSM for community-supported real jazz. Arguably the best thing in the Bay Area. Better yet, you don't have to pay Bay Area rent to listen to it... it's on the web (kcsm.org -- see link below)!kenji

Yes. WFUV reminds me of what FM radio was like in the late '60s.
It has the same adventurousness, DJs speaking like normal people who could be friends of yours, diversity of taste and is a great source for new music. They are also available on the web at www.wfuv.org where you can hear their "stream" from anywhere.
Happy Listening!

WKCR from Columbia University in New York City (www.wkcr.org) is the most adventurous jazz station I know of. (A tip of the hat to WBGO in Newark as well but WKCR is my personal jazz favorite.)DJ Phil Schapp is a veritable encyclopedia of jazz. Each of his shows is like a three credit course in jazz history. Where else can you find "Bird Flight", a daily program dedicated to Charlie Parker.
Happy Listening!

WPFW -- 98.3 FM in the Washington, DC region. Mostly jazz of all stripes, also world music, blues, soul, and some news/talk programming. A Pacific station. 100% independent and listener-supported. No ads, no public or corporate money.http://www.wpfw.org
WAMU 88.5 FM in the Washington DC region.
I only listen to WAMU on the weekend. During the week they are 100% talk NPR.
On Saturday night, they play old time Big Band and swing.
On Sunday mornings, they play bluegrass, with the high-light being the Ray Davis show from approx 10 am to 1 PM (Eastern time).
Then, from 1 to 3 PM famed musicologist Dick Spottswood comes on and plays the most obscure pre-WWII music you'll ever enjoy and never hear again. He plays 78s from his personal collection of tens of thousands of records. Emphasis on American roots music.
I believe you can also hear WAMU on the web.
http://www.wamu.org
These two stations are the only beacons of light in the sludge that is the DC corporate radio sewer.
Darryl
their classical ain't too bad, & they have decent sunday shows w/folk music, & the syndicated "songs for aging children". but, i gotta say wpfw is the greatest! quality uncompressed signal, too! :> )doug s.

npr during the day, great music at night.
Check Morning becomes Electic with Nic Harcourt.Live Bands on show.Check shows archives.Air,Radiohead Sigor Ros,Zero 7.He has Bands on before they hit it big and after.[Bands want to be on his show.[Very influnencial station].Nic flys all over to do his shows live.If you haven't heard the aformentioned Bands you are WAY out of the Loop as far as new non comercial Music goes. From acoustic to Electronic this is The Best Radio Show in Southern California.Think Underground FM Radio in its infancy.Curious?
Don't forget Chocolate City, Metropolis and Cafe LA among other great shows. Musical programming you will not hear anywhere else. Even the pledge drives are not as annoying as other public stations.Robert

look at the top right of the site, you can get ( good ) streaming archived music or news. as for the simulcast, after 12am PST on weekdays there's chocalate alley (music performed by black musicians, mostly avant-garde electronica) and "weekend gets eclectic" on saturday and sunday (once again, west coast of the us).
i believe real player is the transport.HOBER is cool by the way, although i prefer kcrw.
just curious, is your homepage supposed to link to porn? the "beautiful picture" led to an interesting offer for download.
