In Reply to: RE: Can KT-120s be used in TU-879S? posted by lektrik on December 03, 2011 at 16:43:37
The heater on a KT88 is 1.6 Amps - while the heater on a KT120 draws 2.0 amps.
The KT-120 should be directly swappable in many KT-88 amps and run fine but won't sound much different (or worse) from a regular KT-88. To take advantage of the added power, you need to modify the power supply and probably the output transformers. It is too much risk for TU-879S not designed to run on KT-120 tube.

Okay, That's what I wanted to know. After installing the Mundorf Silver in Oil coupling caps, using the EI KT-90 sounds better than the various 6L6s I was using, so it made me curious about using the KT-120. I don't want to damage the TU-879S at all since I am very happy with it.
I'm always looking for improvements, even when I already have great sound. Thanks for your reply.

You can upgrade the volume pot to TKD 2CP-601.
