I highly recommend Nine Inch Nails - Beside You In Time .On February 27, 2007 , UMG released NIN - BYIT in 48/24 5.1 Dolby TrueHD on HD DVD . ( For those who don't know : MLP , used for DVD-A , is the core technology used for Dolby TrueHD ) .
In 2005 , Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth was released simultaneously on DualDisc with DVD-A , and on CD , and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart .
BYIT was recorded live during the With Teeth tour .
On BYIT , NIN plays most of the songs from With Teeth , along with some songs from The Downward Spiral , and other NIN albums and EPs .
I have played the BYIT HD DVD , and I must say that BYIT in 5.1 Dolby TrueHD is an intense sonic experience . The 5.1 mix was done by Elliot Scheiner , and it is excellent . Elliot Scheiner is , certainly , not shy about using the rear channels for more than crowd noise . The rear channels have plenty placed in them , including some discrete / nearly discrete instruments and effects , and some backing vocals .
The song " Gave Up " is spectacular in 5.1 Dolby TrueHD , with instruments and effects alternating in the individual front and rear channels .
If you like Hi-Rez audio , and Nine Inch Nails , and you are able to play 5.1 Dolby TrueHD on HD DVD , I strongly suggest that you purchase the Nine Inch Nails - Beside You In Time HD DVD . It will be money well spent ... very well spent .

Why would anyone buy an HD-DVD player when the format is already breathing its last breath...? Yep, Blu-Ray is kicking HD-DVD's tail all over the place :-)
I have players for both formats and it is pretty clear at this point that they will both be sticking around (though I personally prefer HD DVD). But honestly, this is not the place to battle this out.
Sure! It seems reasonable since we're now talking about video releases in DVD-Audiobahn, that posts about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD would be welcome... I simply noted that the release in question is available on both formats, and many would prefer to own it on Blu-Ray. I disagree with your statement that "they will both be sticking around"... One will become the new standard, and the other will wither and die. It's nice that you can own two players, but most people won't... they will choose one or the other. I won't trot out the usual arguments for the potential success of either format. I'm not a fanboy for Blu-Ray, I just happen to believe (for a variety of reasons) that they are going to win this "format war"... many people more knowledgeable than myself think that it is already over.
..and many people don't.
too many formats and too many mediums. Soon they'll have to start a "CD Interchange" here on the Asylum... we'll be tempted to buy an artist/band's complete catalog on ONE optical disc. I can't wait to see the packaging...sigh.sorry it took so long... Mr. Underhill. That is, if you are who you say you are!
Cheers
If there was one thing I learned from being an early adopter to DVD-Audio (Toshiba SD-9200), it is that it is a VERY bad idea to be an early adopter. Early players are expensive and full of bugs. A year later, things start to settle down, the price drops, the bugs (hopefully) get ironed out, and the format begins to slide into an early death.Hey Zekky, where is your newest killer DVD-Audio release, or have you given up like the rest of us?
The new Ernest Ranglin AIX release is far more exciting to me, on DVD-A. The following is a quote from Dr. AIX.This has been almost two years in the making but the Ernest Ranglin "Order of Distinction" Collectors Edition 2-disc [four sides] is finished. In case you don't know who Ernest Ranglin is...he's an amazing 75 year old Jamaican jazz guitarist that was instrumental in establishing Ska and reggae as dominant forms of world music back in the late 50's and early 60's. On this release, he's joined by Robby Krieger from the Doors, Elliot Easton from The Cars, Laurence Juber, Jeff Lorber, Adrian Young, Monty Alexander, Elan Atias and Alana Davis.
The tracks are incredible and the video is first rate shot in HD. Hanna-McEuen is right behind...maybe next month.
I just looked at their website and did not see that release. Do you have add'l details of when, etc.?
I just bought it, and the Paul Williams-Willy Nelson albums from their website. And have listened to them both. So I know it is there - it was under new releases. They also have an 800 number you can call.
Thanks found it - but it is a DualDisc and I don't buy those (my main player has warnings and I know others who have had repairs done with similar players so I'm not about to go against manuf. instructions). Too bad, I would have bought a DVD-A"There is a Dualdisc [CD and DVD-Audio] and 2-sided DVD-Video disc. Featuring footage from Ernests' home and music history in Jamaica. "
I'm more than happy to sell you the package and burn a custom one off of the DVD-Audio side of the DualDisc. Just let me know...BTW I have sold thousands of DualDiscs and have yet to have anyone return one or have any technical problems with them. THey play in my Acura TL, my Meridian 800 as well as my inexpensive Panasonic R-45.
The Ernest Ranglin disc is really special.

I have seen them for sale at various sites on the internet, but more frequently I buy directly from them. Go to the following website:

Play it MC or throw it onto eBay?
I would be curious to know, since I would expect them to do their best, but I have not heard whether it is 24/48 or 24/96 or something else (Hey, TrueHD even allows 24/192 in 5.1, so it could even be that).Looking forward to an answer! I think other hi-rez enthusiasts would also like to know.
According to the UMG executive who produced this disc , the 5.1 Dolby TrueHD is 48/24 .BTW , it's great to play , back to back , the studio versions of songs from The Downward Spiral and With Teeth DualDiscs in 5.1 DVD-A , and then , the live versions of the same songs from the Beside You In Time HD DVD in 5.1 Dolby TrueHD .
I thought I remembered reading before the release that it was going to be 24/48
It has rave reviews for the sound quality.
in the forum to own this great disc .With regards to your " rave reviews ... " comment :
Both major components on this disc are excellent .
That's really sad, ZS. I didn't think you would sell out so quickly! ;-)
Is that how we get around the rules about video postings in a Hi-Rez forum? ... Start off talking about DVD-Audio, then slide in what you REALLY wanted to post about the video.
You're absolutely right but until the moderators decide to moderate, I'm sure we will see lots more of that as more concert videos come out.
