but how do we not know there are other sleepers out there? how was this unit found out, is there a place for data on all dvd players, so its not a hit and miss situation? well i should probably get a couple more just incase, one to modify anyhow. the presence is great though , as been said the bass is loose, but man!, the mid and highs are great! happy hi/fi. jeff.
Follow Ups:
Are their any others sleepers out there, that's why we are here...to find out and help each other. I have had a toshiba 3900 for 10 months and run it sp/dif raw => kenwood. The soundstage isn't the deepest but it is grainless and liquid. Excellent little player. But I also know, to get a deeper soundstage w/o modding I will have to pay 20x the price.
"but how do we not know there are other sleepers out there"?Prices on DVD players drop all the time when new models are coming out. A good thing for Joe consumer shopping at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc looking to pick up a player. Have folks here compared this unit to each and every player that have been available for these low prices? What makes this player any different then others out there was one inmates question when this fad started and I did not see any replies.
As far as I'm concerned, I already have my sleeper (Sony CE775). I utilized the Tosh 3950 for one week now and I still much prefer the player I have had as a backup to my main CD player. I doubt the 3950 is going to change dramatically if I keep it for another two weeks to change my opinion.
It's great that folks like what they are hearing for $60 bucks or so. As you said, whose to know versus other players that have been available at this price?
