These sell for around $3,500 used. That is my maximum. Looking for suggestions, new or used up to that price point. Currently using a Wadia 321 which is very good. Have owned the PS Perfectwave DAC previously and really like it. Source is a Music Vault running USB.

Been living with it for 2+ years and several free OS upgrades. There is nothing else. Buy it and enjoy. You will astonished at what your CD's, etc. sound like. I have been listening to digital since the Magnavox CDB 650, purchased in 1986. Been through myriad CDP's and about 5 DAC generations. This is the one to get.

These sell for $3,500 new, I can say the guy who sold it to me for $2,500 used said his wife made him sell it because he had the Directstream . He told me not much difference, keep in mind Directstream is perhaps the most innovative DAC out there, I like the Auralic Vega because it can do DXD I am a fan of PCM not DSD.
The Audio Alchemy 3-In-1 Digital Decoding Preamp / DAC / Headphone Amp and PS-5 Power Supply might be worth a look. Prices are $1,999 for the DDP-1 and $595 for the PS-5.

I have not heard this combination but it looks like something you should look at.

You can get top of the line Schiit.
...it's been reported as being ruthlessly revealing. As in, if you're playing anything other than very well recorded music the unit is painful to listen to. Of course tastes vary.
Also if DSD is not needed the Audio-GD Master7 or NOS7 are great dacs

Why not get a new DirectStream Jr? It includes network streaming capability built-in and is RoonReady should you ever decide to go that route. The network card is an optional cost item in the DirectStream, but that capability is included in the Jr.
If you have hardware to trade-in PS will give you trade-in value if buying from them direct. A dealer might also give you a slight discount w/o a trade-in so the $4000 DirectStream Jr. won't be that far off your budget.
I'd also take a look at the Mytek Brooklyn DAC at $2000 new.
P.S. I really like my PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC. I kept it and sold my Ayre QB-9 DSD. Both are excellent but I slightly prefer the NuWave.
I'm waiting for the Oppo Sonica to come out, probably in December. I think it's supposed to sell for $800 and contains the latest ESS DAC. It also has a capability to connect a USB drive directly for playing hi-res digital up through DSD(128). Anyway, I'm curious to hear it when it comes out.
Best regards,
John Elison
