In Reply to: RE: EAD T-1000 transport Service Manual or Schematics ?? posted by rogerh113 on August 07, 2016 at 06:54:27
There is no service manual per se by EAD. There are however service manuals for the Pioneer CD players they were based on. The trick is finding which player.
Changing the laser in these is no simple feat. First, they are very rare and very expensive. Second you need a signal generator, a good multi-meter and an oscilloscope (at least 40Mhz).
This is not a good player to experiment with and repairs should only be attempted by someone who knows what they're doing. Otherwise you could easily be out a lot of money.

Just to add some recent personal experience...
When I went to replace my transport not long ago, I was considering a used T-1000. I spoke to Audio Mart Service Center in Overland Park, KS (913.648.4443), which is the outfit that the former EAD designers use/recommend for repairs. I was informed that there is no supply of T-1000 lasers or motors anywhere. That said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying it while it lasts, right?
I got the transport from the original owner, and he says it has very low miles. Given the pristine condition of it, I can believe it. Hopefully that means the laser is in good condition. From the limited amount I know (at the moment), I gather the laser could have been miss-adjusted and over driven, but hopefully that is not the case. With any luck, it is a tired / dead capacitor or one of the manual adjustments has drifted over time and needs to be changed / corrected.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the perspective. The thing is that I would rather work on something I would actually like to keep, than something that is easy (and I would have no use for). I am looking at this as a backup for a Levinson 37, so a bit of complexity and work is ok.
regards -- Roger
