No, it is 24/44
They do a lossy compression of the signal above 22 kHz ad store this in the bits below 16 hence they need 24 bits

I wonder how many people don't realize that MQA is a lossy compression scheme. Even the Mytek rep's convoluted sales pitch in the Raven Audio room at the Capital Audiofest didn't mention this point. Instead it was all about 'timing errors', etc.
To me MQA is mainly a numbers game (i.e. marketing) and a way for the record companies to 'support' high-res audio without giving people the chance to have a copy of the real goods.
