http://www.goldmund.com/news/They are now admitting to essentially re-badging a cheap Pioneer DVD player. This Eidos 20 costs well over $10,000 ($16,000 IIRC).
This originally broke a month or two ago on several forums (it started on a Hong Kong forum I think). I for one originally thought it was a hoax. Out of curiosity I checked the Goldmund website last night for some official response given the potential damage it caused to their reputation. Now we know the official truth.
I think it's safe to say this response won't provide much "damage control".

Yah, a toroid isolation transformer, some small long board at the rear and a shiny "magnetic damper" thingy over the stock dvd rom drive. Oh, and a fancier case (or at least faceplate).
Yep, that's worth an additional $15,000. Maybe the toroid is wound with pure gold wire.
My choice of a modded DV-45A for my universal player is again affirmed ( <$1000 total).
