Which CD player would be the best for Eastern Electric tubed preamp and SS amp. Here are a few in contention:AH! 4000
Rega Jupiter
Eastern Electric
Audio Aero PrimaI would like to find the sweetest midrange possible. Massive bass is not necessary nor do I need any dog frightening tinty highs. Large, fast, dynamic soundstage a must!
Follow Ups:
What speakers are you using? Are they capable of producing the sound you are looking for? It's all about synergism.......DK
OOPs forgot to mention my speakers are very rich in the bass and midrange area probably slighly rolled off at top due to the materials of the day (1992). Thanks again
My speakers are pretty accurate and some what neutral or transparent-DCM timewindow sevens. I used to have the DCM TF 600 and they were more pronounced in the midrange. The sevens are a hand picked signature series that are made to be full range and transparent. I was happy with the sound I had tuned in even when using a cheap magazine type Kenwood CD player. But, you know how it is. I figured there must be something better than my 150.00 CD player right? So this is where I am right now. So sorry, a little winded... but yes I can get good sound out of this setup. Just need to find the right tonal balance from CDP. Thanks
You already have a tube preamp. I would go after: low noise, tonal clarity and detail (in other words, a very accurate source) and let your tube preamp apply the tonal shading.
Makes sense to me! But I still want a very large soundstage. According to many inmates the Eastern Electric is not really colored as you put it. That is why I could lean in either direction. Do you have any recomendations?
Everything OS in the $1500-$2500 range sounds almost the same to me. That's not a bad thing. Naim, Quad, Arcam, Jungson, Sugden, Audio Analogue, Rega are among the first i would look at. Arcam's are really neutral. Naim, Quad and AA "swing" or "sing" a bit more.I would highly recommend the Marantz S-11, but i am not sure what it costs in the US. This is both CD and SACD.
Audio Note DACs are different because it has both non-oversampling + tube output stage. It is pretty neutral actually. But relatively expensive. You have to get a transport, although they are meant to becoming out with 2 or 3 one-box CDP solutions (but they won't be cheap, either).
I didn't mean coloured in a bad sense, but it adds the tube flavour to the signal. Compare it with a Bryston to see what i mean.
Thanks for the info: I think you have me headed in the right direction. If this purchase ever formalizes I will let you know what I have found. Thanks Again!

I have listened to the EE CDP in my system , the only thing holding me back is that I had an Arcam 9 A-B with the EE and the Arcam had better dynamics and separation of instruments. The EE did better with female singers and maybe just a tad smoother with electric guitar. The Arcam has a more pronounced lower midrange which sounds better with male vocalist and the electric guitar is more pronounced. The Arcam was better in bass too.
Did you try NOS tubes in the EE ? They make a huge difference.
The Arcam was not on your list. Then why did you ask if you aready made up your mind on the Arcam?
I have not settled on the Arcam, it is to recessed in the female voice region. I am trying to do some more research in able to get more of the sound I would like.
