Does anyone know of a portable CD player that offers a digital output?Thank you.
They have models that start at $150. They use a mini-plug optical output. Mini-plug to Toslink optical cables are available
at Best Buy. I used a Sony portable with an external DAC in my car stereo and the sound was fantastic!!
Sony makes several models of Discman that have digital optical output. Check their website. They promote the feature as a way to do digital recording to minidisc.
Since I'm still in the market for a CD player for my system, yet recently busted my heavily used and dearly beloved Portable player, I was considering this option too. A high quality DAC such as the Audionote, Assemblage, CAL etc using the portable as a transport would have provided far better sound than having to buy a portable and a separate box CD player for the same price would have. But sadly, I'm of the opinion that Sony Portables are very bad and far inferior to Panasonic models. My panasonic was a warrior till the end when I dropped it and it broke to pieces (my fault totally), while my friends have had to throwaway there Sony's long ago. Part of this may be due to the fact that Panasonic's are made in Japan while Sony's are made elsewhere. Sometimes this matters.SIgh.
