I bought the set on CD, from John Mark's recommendation, and love it. It's now my favorite among the sets I own, which include the Italiano, Berg, Tokyo, Guarneri, and Emerson. The recording quality is superb and the playing beautiful.

Yes, that set really holds up! Their Op. 127 slow movement is the single best-recorded and I think perhaps best-played LVB quartet movement I know of.
In a sense I think it a shame that they called it quits, but, IIRC they had been at it for 20 years and perhaps they felt that they had achieved what they set out to do--I certainly think they did.
Being before the public in a genre where the smallest fingerslip can turn into a Nine Days Wonder cannot be any fun; and having to coordinate with three other musicians is perhaps more demanding than playing Beethoven piano sonatas.
Cheers,
john
...I've purchased several other of their discs and none have disappointed. I too am sorry they disbanded: I was looking forward to hearing more from them.Thank you again, for the many wonderful recommendations you make.
