Of course, even I might agree that the SkD just MIGHT be a bit superior to our local talents in this repertoire! ;-)vs.
Follow Ups:
Done in 1988, not the same Orch we know up to Covid.
Got them both queued up on QOBUZ and will give them both a listen later in the day.
R Strauss/Blomstedt on Denon have always been one of the best versions available
.
at least I can't find it.
Might have to actually BUY it. :-(
OK, silver disk and all, but still....
But so much of that repertoire has subsequently appeared in outstanding MCh performances (lots of Bruckner symphonies, including a set by Blomstedt himself, Jurowski's Pentatone ASZ, etc.) - and in higher-rez too. It doesn't mean that the Denon Blomstedt/SkD performances aren't still very good of course.

And are you speaking from direct experience? ;-)
BTW, here's a GREAT SECRET for one and all who use "nt" in their subject lines. A carriage return / line feed (aka the return key) also counts as a "character" and will save you (if you're so inclined) from having to type actual letters like "d" as the body of your post - just hit the return key instead. It's like magic - and it's so much more "tres gentil" than typing an actual letter. ;-)
And yes, I did saw away on the violin for a year ('72). Still remember the patient old man who tried to teach me, a Mr. (Professor to me) Schneewind (heavy, heavy German accent)who said he'd studied with Ysaye. He was very, very old and I met him because he also cut hair and, during that activity, I had favorably remarked on the music he played on the old phonograph. During our lessons, he would occasionally deign to entertain me by playing some difficult piece or other. He was impressive. He was full of music stories about Berlin, but I don't remember them, now.
I didn't inherit any musical talent from a parent who was a very good amateur and, realizing my time could be better spent on other pursuits, I desisted.

I remember when I was a kid, Szeryng appeared with the LAPO, and one of the local AM stations was having actor Pat Buttram (known for his role as Gene Autry's side kick and Mr. Haney on "Green Acres" among other things) read the performance events in the area that weekend. He got to that Szeryng concert and said (in his big Southern drawl), "And then there's gonna be concert by the LA Philharmonic and Henryk. . . [pause]. . . Tsezeering?. . . " (One of the other announcers had to help him out!)
Symphony. Strauss, of course.
I have fond memories of that too.
And the Nielsen set - one of the very best.
Dave
Surprisingly rated by Dave Hurwitz as the top Sibelius symphony set, FWIW.
