A couple of years ago, I constructed several powercords utilizing belden 19364 cable with marinco and wattgate parts. I was (am) very pleased with the improvement over the stock cords. Got the urge now to get my hands dirty again and I'm reading that Chris V. has a new power cord configuration out. Has anyone had the opportunity to compare his original or new PC cables with the 19364 design. To be used with:
Cary cdp, AI pre, AR vt100 amp

I have constructed some 19364 cables and new Chris cables Favors 1, 2, and 3. To my personal experience, Chris cables are way better then 19364 all around. The difference is not subtle, and I can hear it easily. Chris cables are very transparent, soundstage is larger, and bass definition is tighter. I have not written any review because I want to let the cables broken in more, and then do critical comparisons.I admit 19364 is better than stock cables. But, Chris cables are better the 19364. Try it and you will not regret.
First off look at Sean H. description in the 'review' section, under Bolder section...its pretty reflective of the group impressions. Overall the Crump design is warmer with more midrange emphasis. The ChrisVh design is more open, but dare i say, more revealing. You mention your orginal cord is made with wattgate connectors. This is neither good or bad...it is a reflection of personal taste...just keep in mind both the diy cables, chris & crump, will sound different with different conductors. The 19364 receipe orginally specified p&s male plug and schurter iec...like i said connectors will change the sound. Search the archives. Also, chris has his new cable out and someone should post listening impressions soon....hopefully. As with all things, power cables are system specific. Good luck.
The connectors I specified make for a more neutral cord with the 19364 than the Wattgate or Marinco connectors which are much darker sounding than the P&S/Schurter.....VH flavor II should be a better cord than the 19364 if both use the Wattgate/Marinco connectors.....
I am in complete agreement. The cord is much better with the specified parts...not to mention a less expensive combination. I also didn't like the 83802 wire as well with the P&s and schurter connectors...much too foward. Connector seem to play as large of a role as the wire.
Yep, the nickel plated neutral conductor on the P&S as well as the nylon in the Schurter vs lexan dielectric in the Wattgate makes for a more lively and brighter presentation....Connectors are at least 50% of the sound of any patch cord be they used for signal or power.... There just aren't many choices in connectors for power unfortunately so one has to modify or have some of the pieces remade as some of us have done....
