I have a couple of questions, 1st I bought some General Cable CAT 5e datacom wire in a 1000' roll for $54.99 at Home Depot but it doesn't say if its TEFLON insulated, the out jacket is gray and the twisted wires insulation looks and feels like Teflon (Soapy white color and soft but not rubbery) from my limited experience with teflon. Do you have any experieces with this type of cable?
2nd, I have about 500' Alpha Wire Silver plated OFHC copper 26 AWG with KYNAR insulation, would KYNAR be a good insulation for this CAT 5 design? The only draw back I can see is that the burn-in time would take about 3 weeks to a month because this type of wire doesn't start to sound really good until the the end of the second week of burn-in.Thanks
Steve...
Follow Ups:
I doubt it's teflon unless it states "plenum" in the description.Silver plated OFHC copper 26 AWG with KYNAR insulation.... I have yet to hear a plated cable that sounds better than pure silver or pure copper. That aside, is this wire already in twisted pair form? If not, I wouldn't even attempt it...
Good luck.
PS- I have a new (different, not necessarily improved) version of the Cat5 speaker cable that I will post in the near future--- I just need to find the time to do it....
I Finished my CAT 5e Speaker cable biwire (25 and 9 braid)and hooked it up last night, WOW! this really sounds nice the music seemed to rise off the floor, no harshness at all and the soundstage got wider, more focused and deeper, more 3D. Everything in my system now is braided solid core (interconnects, speaker wire, and power cords). I prefer this sound to the sound I was getting from my Harmonic Technology cables. One thing I did notice was that my Amp had no problem with these CAT 5 cables my amp seemed to run cooler, I have a EDGE M8 power amp and anybody knows this amp you know it comes with a huge transformer, the whole power supply is really nice.I just want to Thank You Chris for giving us this design.
Thank You
Merry ChristmasSteve...

Does it take less than 25 hours to build Chris??? if so I'm already sold haha!

Touch the insulation with a soldering iron. If it melts, it isn't teflon.
