I have a tri-amped system with active crossover. My bass amp (Bryston SST2) has had an ongoing hum problem. I was using Morrow MA-6 interconnects (unshielded as per Mike Morrow) with Eichmann RCA connectors. I changed the interconnects to a set of cheap $12 Radio Shack shielded RCA cables and the hum was eliminated! The Bryston amp manual says to use a set of shielded RCA interconnects. I then substituted a pair of VPI phono interconnects, thinking that the phono cables have better shielding than the Rat Shacks, and the hum came back. What's going on? Can you recommend a better sounding pair of shielded RCA interconnects? Thank you for any advice.

I would check continuity on the ground of the cables that hum. You can do this with a multimeter. I have had defectives cables in the past. A bad ground connection can cause a hum.

I use unshielded VH Audio V-Twist interconnects with a Bryston 3B-SST power amplifier and find no problem regarding hum.
I suggest finding out what happens if you take the active crossover out of the signal path, by connecting your preamplifier directly to the power amplifier as a test.
The VPI cables are not shielded. Just because they are Phono cables, one should not assume they are shielded.
Interesting, I had read that the VPI phono cables are shielded. Where did you hear that? Thanks.
