A friend of mine asked him me to check out a classic naim 42/110 combo but he does not have the Naim Din cables. Id like to listen for my own education and maybe to make him an offer if i like what i hear.
Does anyone make generic cables for naim gear. I know the naim mantra of keeping everything in the family and or claims that use of other cable brands may negatively effect the amps-but dont want to drop $300 on what is just an experiment at this point. Particularly on a 30 year old kit which may need some work....

Consider sticking w/ the Naim DIN cable. Chord, would be a 2nd choice.
Hi, Chord from the UK makes cables for Naim gear, they may be the original manufacturer for Naim.
I don't know about pricing, so you could contact Chord, or see what available in the Trader, etc, etc...
Naim amps don't have a Zobel in the output stage so they are very sensitive to capacitance. A high capacitance cable could blow the output transistors. That is why Naim speaker cables are a spaced parallel wire, high impedance/low capacitance design. The only cable of this type that I am aware of is Acoustic Research cable (see link). Aside from the spacing, this is you basic parallel stranded OFC Monster Cable, and IMO, nothing to get excited about, but the price is right.
There are probably other parallel and flat cables that would be appropriate, but due to the danger of trashing the amp, I would prefer someone with more knowledge, specific to Niam, answer.

Yes that is correct in regard to the loudspeaker wires. As far as interconnects are concerned a Naim amplifier system is normally star earthed and the interconnects often carry system earth wires in addition to the signal conductors. Remember that the 42 pre is (unless one uses a NAPS power supply or alternative) powered via the 110 power amp. Another reason for the DINs and for sticking with what Naim provided.
