Hi !
I would like to try a high capacitance power cord with my dac.
The rationale behind this decision is that my actual dac has a very poor mains filtering and the quality of mains voltage in my flat is highly suspicious.
A right cable could tame some HF noise present in the mains without having to mess with additional filters, i hope.
So i am here to get recommendations.
Current draw is very little ... like max 0.2 A at 230 VAC (the voltage here in Norway is 230VAC).
But 110AC power cords would also be fine.
In the case i could use a step down transformer 230-110 VAC that maybe it could provide additional and beneficial mains filtering.
Thanks a lot indeed for any kind advice.
Kind regards,
bg

A cross-connected star-quad geometry will lower inductance and increase capacitance vs. a typical 3-core power cord, but I don't think it would increase capacitance enough to effectively act as an AC noise filter. You might consider power cord designs that intentionally function as a filter such as those from Van den Hul or Wireworld.
Hi and thanks a lot for the very valuable advice.
I would like to explain the situation.
I have a dac without any form of mains filtering. So i looked at a common passive mains filters.
Problem is that they are usually designed for current from 4A up and they could not be that effective for very low current like 0.1-0.2 A like in my case.
A power cord with embedded filter would be very convenient (no mods to the unit required).
I looked at the brands you suggest and i think i have found exactly what i am looking for. A cable blocking RF noise from the mains.
Thanks a lot again.
Kind regards,
bg

I've never come across an audiophile power line conditioner that is less effective for a low-current load. Some folks only use a power line conditioner for their digital front end, which often involves very little current draw. You might like to research power line conditioners again to find one that might be suitable for your wants/needs.
Hi and thanks a lot again Mr. Duster for the very precious advice.
On principle i like the idea to treat each component with its own power cord/filter ... like separating each component from the other in some way.
I will read about the cables you mention that are very interesting.
Another solution could be a power cord including a mains filter like the ones from MIT in the picture.
As i said my main goal is not to have to mess with the internals of the unit. There is no space available in the unit at all.
I will keep on reading about the interesting subject.
Thanks a lot again.
Kind regards,

Sweet -looking MIT PC!
Z cords use a special ferrite bead. They were designed to be used in conjunction with the Z isolator, Z strip, and the Z Stabilizer.
