This is in response to a few posts by dawnrazor and pictureguy in the thread Is MIT full of crap. But it is not a direct response, rather more of the "hmm" that their posts lead me to.

They got me to thinking about how much is learned from our failures, and how curious I am to listen to, for example, a set of interconnects woven around a nylon core.
In fact, I'd love to hear a variety of different, terrible designs. But of course, such interconnects won't be good, so I'm not going to invest the time and money to make them. It doesn't make sense for me to spend all this money and time (making even a bad cable can be laborious), just to hear why polyester makes a bad dielectric, or why 16g copper-plated-tin is a poor choice for conductor.
But, if many people got to satisfy their scientific curiosities, it could be worth it. Let me lay down my idea, and hear if there's any interest. Let's say I spend $150 making a few sets of cables, each which some poor design choice. After I spend a month or so familiarizing myself with the errors of my ways, some other poor sucker - I mean hopeless geek - I mean, scientifically inquisitive soul, could pay me 50% for the materials, and I could ship the shi* to them. From there the cycle repeats. The builder would eat the time and some cost, but from there one would simply wire whatever amount, like a deposit, which they would recoup when the next dummy, I mean audiophooile, asked for the package. If anyone thinks it's a fun or good idea, let's hear it. I would even be willing to be the first dummy, who eats a bit of cost. What we need is indications of sincere interest, and thoughts on what poor designs should be built. For that, we're probably really looking to you experienced builders who have ideas for truly, revealingly wrong cables.
I'm glib of tongue, and this may sound a silly notion, but I honestly think it could be a good idea. What say?
What fun!
This would go a lot faster without all the failing.

Seems I missed it.
