Anyone having good experiences with coax cables for single ended IC`s?
Wich cables brands?
TIA - Jan

Coax for single-ended IC's can be a good way to go, especially if you are seeking a simple DIY assembly.
See:

This post goes into details on the kinds of materials you want to use for a DIY coax, and which ones you want to avoid.

It should be noted that there are some pretty good commercially available twisted pairs in stock form too, such as Belden 89207 or 89272.
However, these do not have optimal twisted pair geometry, and that is why I recommend doing a DIY twisted pair using bits and pieces from other cables.
Good luck on your quest for superior audio cables!

Jon, Duster, Joe, Winston your advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
The reason for my question is that a few days ago I DIY´ed a pair of IC`s from a 2 meter length of DH Labs coax cable I have had lying around several years because of a faulty order (my fault)Should have been the DH Labs studio Pro.
Much to my surprise this beat my pseudobalanced UP-OCC Neotech IC by several horselengths and stirred my curiosity.
The IC is used between my tube riaa and SS linestage.

Not surprising from what has been going on here.
I use thousands of $$ in WyWires here. Excellent cables.I tried these because a friend got them for giggles> >

Could not believe how they sounded. Better? no but real damn close enough to live with. Go figure. I like Neotech cables too.
So you never know what will sound good unless you try it. Period!

Thanks. Looks interesting. Rgds Jan
There are few reasons to seek out a coaxial cable for a line-level application. One reason is since the braided shield also serves as the return conductor, and a braided shield tends to be an effectively large gauge conductor, a braided shield when also implemented as return tends to provide a lower impedance ground potential between source and load than a twisted pair which tends to feature relatively small gauge conductors for both signal and return. The lowered noise floor benefit of a low impedance return path tends to be component/system dependent, since a relatively small gauge return conductor of an unshielded twisted pair or a Faraday shielded twisted pair does not always present audible issues that can be remedied by the use of a single ended coaxial cable.
That said, the new VH Audio Pulsar Cu II OCC copper coaxial cable is the best sounding coaxial cable I've heard for a single ended interconnect application. The "happy medium" 24 AWG solid core OCC copper center conductor with minimal AirLock cellular Teflon dielectric sounds excellent for both digital and single ended analog applications, IME.
See link:
And if so, which did you prefer and in what application?
You gave a big thumbs up for the Pulsar Ag a while ago, and I was expecting that recommendation. The Cu recommendation was a surprise.
I suspect they are both quite excellent, though.
I've compared digital cables made from both the Pulsar Ag and the Pulsar Cu II, but as a single ended rca interconnect cable, I have experience of the Pulsar Cu II, not the Pulsar Ag. I don't expect to try the Pulsar Ag as a single ended rca interconnect cable since I prefer copper line-level cables vs. silver. That said, I find the new OCC copper Pulsar Cu II (not to be confused with the original Pulsar Cu) to sound even better than the silver Pulsar Ag for digital applications.
.... very nice to know. And very kind of you to provide. :-)
I need to replace a 12 " run of coax Mogami internal signal jumper in a Spectron Musician III amp, as I find Mogami wire (Neglex) generally to fatten and slow the mids and lows, and roll off and smooth out the highs somewhat.
Maybe due to that Mogami wire, the Spectrons have had a slightly rolled off HF response for a while, but with those new ICs I just made (and you and Stu offered very helpful comments about break-in) the highs are coming back. So while I was originally going to go with the Pulsar Ag coax, the very recent IC switch and your comments together effect a change in opinion and circumstances, and I think I'd be best off with the Cu II to maintain a similar tonal balance. If the Spectron still needed a HF goose, I'd probably go with the Ag version.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
WS
I think the Pulsar Cu II would be an ideal replacement for a Mogami coaxial signal jumper. Ask Chris if you can order a 12" length.
As I have a pair of the Spectrons, I'll need two such runs, but Chris is a really good guy and I am quite happy to pay the $80 + shipping to NZ ($14) for the full meter, and that gives my NZ tech a little extra to work with.
But let me thank you again for all the great help, Duster. Way cool! :-)
Cheers,
WS
You might want to read Duster's comments regarding this topic. In my opinion he's one of the members of this forum who consistently is right on the money.Duster, sorry if I'm speaking out of turn.
