I am running a pair of PSI powered monitors in my recording studio. I have tried several Shunyata power cables as well as some DH Labs and have found that they accentuate the somewhat congested lower midrange. The stock black 14ga cables have a better tonal balance but are grainy and lack detail. What do you guys think?

Howdy astralpen,
The coherence of an Acrolink 7N-P4020III power cord would likely be perfect. It mates well with many AC connectors. The choice of AC plugs and IEC connectors may depend on what sonic signature is preferable for a particular application. The 7N-P4020III bulk length power cable can be used to build any reasonable length power cord required for a studio environment. It's the best sounding 14 AWG power cord I've experienced, with stellar timbrel delineation and soundstage/imaging being it's best audiophile aspects. The caveat of the 14 AWG design is there is a less authoritative bottom end and less macro dynamics than what a larger 12 or 10 AWG power cord tends to provide for high current applications and critical listening sessions from an audiophile POV (YMMV). IME, the bottom end of the Acrolink 7N-P4020III should sound open enough in a studio environment to clearly hear the bass fundamental, while not interfering with the physical feel or slam of an auxiliary subwoofer, if present.
The presentation of the powered studio monitors should find a level of good synergy via the neutral tonality of the 7N-P4020III.
Cheers, Duster
....great things about Triode Wire Labs. Pete is a good guy as well.
Alan, are you going to RMAF?
I'll be a tourist....no dedicated room.
Excellent. Any particular gear of interest?

I know I'll be spending a good amount of time in CanJam....so much to learn, so many new products. I'm also very interested in hearing the Fujitsu (nacelle-shaped) desktop monitors imported by On A Higher Note. And I'm sure I'll be listening in Highwater Sound's room a lot.
I was reading about those Fujitsu monitors- very cool. I really liked their Plasma TV sets some years ago. I am glad the company is still around.
Try Nordost.
Try the Cabledyne Reference power cords. They lift the 'dark chocolate veils' I have heard in most other cords. They are also dynamic yet smooth.
I recommend to keep trying. I always recommend unshielded power cables. So try some and see what you like best. I always recommend to buy from a dealer that allows returns or has in home auditions before buying. We were PS Audio, Shunyata and Richard Gray dealers and the Richard Gray always sounded best to me in MY system.

Locate a Nordost dealer and borrow some. They're priced in the same ballpark as Shunyata (high), but I think they'll do what you want. The mid bass in my system is more articulate since I bought a few Nordost power cords. Also very fast and no grain.
