I would like to buy an Audioquest USB cable to put between my Mac air and my Micromega dac. How high up the ladder do I have to go to get a real jump over my Belkin gold cable? I would prefer to stay under $150. I stream and use Amarra for high res and ripped cd's.

So I went for the carbon AQ. Very good sound. It took just a couple of hours to loosen up. I also bought a cinnamon to go between my MacBook Air and disc drive for ripping. Carbons were $169 for 1.5 meter. My dealer said that he felt the carbon was the high point of the line value wise. My own cd's ripped to Amarra and played back via the carbon usb thru MyDac sounded decidedly better than using my Adcom cd player thru the same dac.

Right On!
Not to divert...but a far better value is the DH Labs USB cable. It is actually made to the correct USB specification.
There are two..the standard..and the Mirage, which is designed with separate
power and signal conductors, with proprietary shielding. Pricier.
But for starting out, their standard cable is terrific.
I really try to use my local brick and mortar hi fi store when I buy new equipment. Used,is internet fairgame. My local store sell AudioQuest. Which I think are very good for the money.

Fair enough...can't argue with that.
I read about more cable companies coming out w/ a USB cable- this is getting interesting.
I think there virtually no high end audiophile cable companies WITHOUT a USB cable offering.
