But personally I feel you should have investigated (the possibility of Rhodium over Nickel) before posting.
Thing is, if that turns out to be the case, one can argue that removing the initial post has as much to do with protecting *your* credibility as much as mitigating any damage to Valab!

Obviously up until Kevin's last post he was not aware that, that might be a possibility. Once that was a possibility I responded in a manner I thought was the responsible thing to do.
Most highend connectors do not contain nickel especially ones made recently. The Wattgates, one of the first highend plugs, is the only 'highend' one I know of that does. It is one of my critera for anything I source to be nickel free.
And I am not really worried about my credibility either way; I’d rather be wrong and apologize then to not question anything at all.

Well if Kevin is "Valab" from the posting below we can say that he was consistent in claiming the plating was Rhodium, however uncertain on the details he may have been. You claimed there was none (and cast doubt on the other Valab "Rhodium" plated products).

Thanks for the summery, we can all read.
Hi Chris,
I think your experiment was a valid thing to do, but I'm glad that I went ahead and emailed Kevin at Valab about the post so he could address the issue. At least we now *might* know what the actual design is. From what I've gathered, the base metal is brass with a copper plating, then a nickel plating is applied to function as a substrate for a final plating of rhodium, which is porous enough to allow the hydrochloric acid to react with the nickel substrate underneath the rhodium plating. Perhaps Valab will confirm this or not. At least I again feel good about Valab's AC gear, and my apologies to Kevin (and Taiwan) for my harsh words. China still pisses me off, though :-D
Cheers, Duster
You state the experiment was a valid thing to do, and hence presumably his posting his results here, and then go on to say, "At least we now *might* know what the actual design is."But what he did was an unambiguous accusation of fraud being perpetrated by Valab.
You can't seriously deny you understood this to be the case, it's quite clear from your posts below, e.g. "... shameful misinformation and utter lies about materials", and you were ready to write-off Valab (and Taiwan for that matter!) as a consequence.
Your reaction, and you past reaction to the counterfeit Oyaide case, suggests that business ethics is a huge factor for you.
And yet in response to this unambiguous accusation of fraud, which now appears a whole lot less than certain, you say "at least we know now *might* know what the actual design is."!!!
Wow! If you can't detect a serious disconnect between the high standard you demand of others and your obvious comfort level with what is (now) a questionable accusation of fraud I feel sorry for you.
Nuff said.
