Greetings! I've never posted in this forum before, but I thought I would seek some advice here. Music Direct is offering Nordost Heimdall interconnects at 50 percent off. I currently use Audioquest XLR interconnects between my Marantz SA-14 and my VAC preamp, and also between the preamp and a VAC power amp. (The Audioquests are a couple of generations old, and I honestly can't remember if they're named after some sort of animal, a river, or a mountain.) Would the roughly $600 cost of two pairs of XLR Heimdall cables be money well spent? I would mention that my taste runs toward a richer and more relaxed sonic presentation rather than laser-like speed and resolution.
Any opinions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds good to me - even at a fair price. I personally love my Nordosts.

Hi, I cannot speak directly to this cable, but am in the process of deciding what I think of the used Nordost Frey I picked up a few weeks ago. This may be more of what you are looking for. Huge soundstage, big bottom end. I shut down my sub completely. At first I did not think it had the same detail my custom silver cables, but I have not come down with a final verdict. Detail is superb but not forward, excellent inner detail, but the "bigness" and musicality is a strong suit as compared to the Blue Heaven and Flatline Nordosts I used in the past. My tastes run to accuracy, a touch of warmth. Don't know if I will keep the Frey, but it is one superb cable, so moving one step up the food chain—maybe used—may be just what the doctor ordered.

I like mine quite alot. I would call them a good combination of speed, openness, bass, tone and warmth, with a touch of sweetness. When I used two pair in one chain I found the result a bit too much of a good thing.
If your system is already a bit hooded, then be careful of the syrupy suggestions, as I have tried those cables and did not like the result. A single pair of Heimdal's gives my system good sparkle without thinness.
Yeah, I agree with mt10425, that the Nordost cables (in general) are not in the "rich and relaxed" category. They are closer to the "laser-like speed and resolution" as you stated you did not want.
FYI: I use Nordost cables, (balanced Quattro Fil interconnects as well as Valhalla speaker cables). Both are fairly fast cables, and in IMHO, they are both fairly neutral. However, if I were to describe their sound, I'd say it was slightly lean in the mid-bass region.
If you want something in that same price range, that was "rich and relaxed", I would recommend something like the Cardas Golden Reference cables. (I used that before the Quattro Fil cable.) It had a fair amount of resolution, but still has a nice amount of warmth to it. (If you want even more warmth, the Golden Cross cables have it in spades.)
My two cents worth.
I just sold my Heimdall I/Cs. Overall, I liked them but wouldn't describe them as rich and relaxed. They're not necessarily laser-like either. I got plenty of bass and HF tone. They do have a sound though, and I went with something neutral (as I believe it).
