That's what I'd do. Connect braid with one conductor to shell/ground at one end and dont connect braid at other. Never tried the cap but a small ceramic may fit inside a plug with larger shell. An axial cap may be easier. Plug shield connected end at source. "Navships" has some good wire. I cant comment on the STP wire you linked but it may very well be worth a try with some inexpensive plugs to audition. Heck, I use Switchcraft plugs at 2 bucks a piece these days anyway.
