Hi all,
I need a pair of 18 feet (6 m) speaker cable for my -future- 300B SET amplifier (Coincident Frankenstein or Manley Neo). I don't see cables as a tone control device but I afraid of choosing a wrong spec cable. This amplifiers are low powered ones so I'm anxious about cable gauges. Moreover, people are talking about shielded vs. unshielded; copper vs. silver vs. silver coated copper. For example I have tuner in my setup and its' antenna goes side by side with the speaker cable for the whole length. And some people think that Coincident Super Eclipse speakers are leanish in character.
Nordost have 6 m cables in their range. White Lighting is in my budget, and I can go up to Purple Flare if it is really good. DH Labs Q10 and T14 and Ecosse MS 2.4 are among my other options. There are also -a lot of- Furutech bulk cables and I don't know which one is preferable.
Well, this is it. Any help would greatly appreciated.

Follow Ups:
I'm using 6-meter runs of Acoustic Zen Epoch on my Moth S2A3. I like it a lot. It's 11-gauge OCC copper, nicely balanced yet harmonically rich, designed for long runs or in-wall use, and won't break the bank.
Hi all,
If I decide on to go shielded or not; half of the equation would be solved for me. Well, here is my considerations:
The Bad: I have some 10 pieces of electronic equipment in the audio rack. and their power cables makes a mass and speaker cables' length are 18 feet.
The Worse: I have dimmable lights in the room and even worse I will have an aquarium which will use lots of fluorescent lambs.
The Ugly: I have a tuner and its' antenna traveling with the speaker cable side by side.
Are they enough to go shielded?

Hi everybody,
I still need help about going shielded or not?

I wouldn't bother with shielded as long as you stay away from AC power. If you have to cross a power line do it at a 90 degree angle. I've had runs of over 70 feet of unshielded cable due to room considerations for surrounds and have never had a problem. All of my speaker cable comes from Blue Jeans Cable. I refuse to spend more on copper runs than the equipment that's driving it all.
With signal lines, such as interconnects, unshielded can be dicey, especially if you are dealing with a rat's nest of cables behind the gear. Same rule applies; keep it away from AC! That being said, I went to Home Grown Audio and picked up a few of their interconnect kits with pure silver solid core wire that is unshielded and haven't had a problem with it, but I will admit that I am a neat freak with cables. Zip ties are my friend...
I highly recommend this - available from Gotham Audio USA (www.gothamaudiousa.com). Aprox. 12ga, very inexpensive and very neutral.
Given the price it's a steal.
From the link it is stranded OFC copper with PVC insulation. It looks nice but I can't see why it would sound any better than the other un-insulated parallel twin stranded cables such as original Monster Cable.

I don't know why either, but it works well and is very inexpensive. It might not be the final solution, but it should do what the op wants.
I certainly can't tell you what you hear. I am glad it worked for you. It is always good when you get good sound and don't spend a lot doing it.

Furutech bulk cables are very nice, neutral (no tone control effects) and excellent performers.
From the bulk line I recommend Alpha S-25, Alpha S-14, u2T..., From their factory line the Evolution II is a giant killer but is only sold in single wire. You'll need two runs if you're going to biwire which will be a bit expensive. If you have the budget go straight to the Evolution II's !
Currently using S-14 with my SET amp. Looking to upgrade soon to an Evolution II..

I am very much interested in the Furutech S-14 speaker cable (15 gauge, light blue colour). I need to give all the details about its sound and character. What cables have you compared it with? Thank you.
Thank you for your response. I guess Evolution line is limited to 2 m and 3 m pairs, which are not suitable for my setup.
I make a closer look to Furutech line and after first elimination FS-15S (shielded) and Alpha S14 (unshielded) seemed fine to me. They are both 15 AWG but, former has alpha-OCC; latter has u-OFC core. I'm not sure what this terms are. Do you have an idea?

OFC is Oxygen Free Copper, OCC is Ohno Continuous Cast - Single Crystal copper. The OCC is a purer copper than OFC..Both are good though. OCC will give you a better sonic picture with a cleaner purer sound. OFC is still very good and maybe preferable in some set-ups than OCC..You will be the only one to decide this.AP

Though OCC copper is better than OFC; OCC has nothing to do with actual purity of the wire.OCC is the process in which the wire is drawn and has nothing to do with purity. I have seen 4N OCC copper and 6N OFC, so it depends...OFC can be purer than OCC copper and vise versa.
I do it all in the name of music!!!
Thanks for setting it right.
