...specified for video by the manufacturer, as the interconnect between my transport and DAC? The cable in question is the Nordost Optix video digital coax cable. Would there really be a difference?
Follow Ups:
The design criteria for a 75 Ohm video cable and a 75 Ohm SP/DIF digital cable is essentially the same (so, "it will work"), but not all video cables sound good/great when used as a digital cable. The cable in question will need to be tested by your ears for it's sonic merit (trust your ears). An email sent to Nordost with your question would likely be kindly answered with, "...it will work, but our cable products designed for digital use will sound better..." (which would likely be the truth), but there would be no reason not to use the particular video cable for digital use if it sounds satisfactory to your ear. At least it's design and specs seem suitable for digital applications. However, if you plan to buy one for your needs, I would instead select another cable that's specifically designed for use as an SP/DIF digital cable.
...is good for both SP/DIF and video use. Shall check what Nordost have to say.

If the design criteria are the same, how can one be specifically designed for one and not the other?
I said essentially the same (essentially = basically). Here's an example of two 75 Ohm cables made by Cardas:IME, the original Cardas Lightning Digital cable is excellent for both SP/DIF digital and video use, and while the Cardas Precision Video cable sounds rather unspectacular when used for SP/DIF digital, it's an excellent cable for video use, and on par with the Cardas Lightning Digital cable for that application, IMHO. Ask George why (I'm not an EE and don't play one on TV, either).
