CHeLA speaker wire arrived yesterday..Got busy on making four jumpers first. Then moved to working on speaker cables.
Terminated with AudioQuest(Silver)CF spades.
Photo shows CHeLA's Cooking on my Audiodharma cable cooker.
They will stay on for 2 to 3.5 days.
Follow Ups:
If these pure copper strands are only clad in cloth. Would'nt they oxidize fast?

The core is made of many individual strands of unbleached cotton.
Not the wires.

I just made my first set of chela jumpers for the midrange inputs on my Spendor SP100's. (I have my chela main cables, but I am using VH's 12awg power wiring at the moment).I am still waiting on the remaining furotech spades to do the tweeter jumpers, so I have replaced only the midrange and they have had no burn-in.
Huge difference for the positive!
I am a bit suprised that just one set of jumpers can make such a difference. i have tried different jumpers before and the difference wasnt this large. maybe there really is some synergistic effect of using the same speaker cable all the way through.
plus the CheLA is just that good.Got my set of ChelA's up and running last night.
Besides all the extensive accolades others have heaped on this
wonderful wire, here is a couple more. When warming up my system for normal listening there is a point
at the beginning where (with my old speaker wire)the sound is a
little abrasive. This has completely disappeared with the CHeLA wire.
No more glare and grain...And low level retrieval is so well defined that when thermal equilibrium takes place I can immediately hear the soundstage expand with great detail.
Anyone has experience with biwring a speaker which accepts triwiring (in my case the Spendor SP100)?That is, two sets of speaker cables to LF and MF, jumpers from LF to HF -- or otherwise?
Have you tried Spendor? Link below is to your speaker.
If you don't have the manual you can download it.Also you can email them directly at info@spendoraudio.com
They should have all the answers.
I just downloaded your Spendor SP 100 manual. (In PDF)
It seems to have the wiring diagrams you are looking for.
Good luck...
Should have looked there, thanks a lot! So actually what they are saying is that biwire will give a considerable improvement, while going going from biwire to triwire will make less of a difference.
Interesting to see that -- when biwiring -- they advise to connect the cables to LF and HF (not to LF and MF, which I would have done)... Learning every day...
At least you have the three diagrams and you can make your
CHeLA jumpers and experiment with what sounds best.
Happy listening...
Beautifully done! And I know this is a lot of work (especially with the additional jumpers) as I just terminated a Chela set (with Eichmann bayonets).Question: what spades did you use for the jumpers? I am planning to make Chela jumpers too for triwiring, so I would need 16 spades -- therefore looking for good quality but not too expensive spades...
Terminated with AudioQuest(Silver)CF spades.
Got a good deal on the spades.
They run $30.00 set of four. I paid $9.99 a set.
Got mine at Magnolia(inside Best Buy).
Bought all they had.
Here is a link to some at $22.00 for set of four.
Needle Doctor also has them in two styles of Audioquest bananas.
HomeGrown Audio also has some good looking spades.
Hi RadioWonder, thanks for the links! I was considering the Furutech spades, but these look more affordable...
The Furutech spades are very nice, and near perfect (I still like Cardas Culver copper better) but I like a smaller spade for jumpers. I have made jumpers from Luminous wire and Furutech spades, and with certain speakers it can be difficult to double up the spades on the binding posts since they are so substantial. In every other respect I like them very much.
I agree -- but recently also found smaller Furutechs for crimping (no screws): Furutech FP 203 - G(old) or R(hodium).Having said that, my binding posts are gold plated -- should not I use a similar spade?
...IMHO rather than a crimp type, and there's no reason to use the same plating for speaker cable connectors as what the binding posts use (or may not use such as unplated copper types). If a strict "same plating concept" were true, folks would steer clear of anything (such as rhodium or silver plated) other than gold plated rca's for example, since the vast majority of rca jacks are gold plated. If you are looking for HQ spades to terminate CHeLA jumpers with, the set screw type AudioQuest CF spade that RadioWonder selected is a fine choice and should allow easy stacking capability if needed. The AudioQuest CF's silver and gold versions should sound rather similar, with just a tad more warmth offered by the gold version since both versions are thinly flash plated.
The Furutech spades were my first choice.
They are probably the best for the money.I just thought I would try the Audioquest CF spades, and if I
wanted to upgrade to the Furutech's I just unscrew and
switch connectors.
While I use WBT's on my CHeLA's and own a set of Furutech spades, I also find the lesser-cost AudioQuest CF line of speaker cable connectors to be excellent and a great value costwise (I use the AudioQuest CF BFA connector in a second system and like it very much). Even though less expensive than the other premium set screw type connectors; AudioQuest's CF line of speaker cable connectors are fine quality and are worthy of the CHeLA, IMHO. If you upgrade to Furutech, let the forum know if you find them to sound better than the AudioQuest CF.
Thanks Duster..
I appreciate your input on the AQ CF spades.
Nice job, RW!
Alan... I love the Audiodharma.
You make a very fine product!
I use it fequently... Thanks
Wat'll you blend it into the audio gumbo of a system and "taste" the results!Prego!
