hi, i have made some mesure on the tube operating points first triode of the 5697 i 'v got 101V anode to grid voltage 4,7cathode voltage making a small 4mah bias
second triode : 260V anode to grid voltage , 13,5V cathode voltage making 9mah bias
when you look at the plate/voltage schematic of the 5687 you could see these operating points are not very optimal ( not linear parts of the curves) . is someone ever try to run them harder ?
cheers.
Follow Ups:
i finally stepped on a bias of 12mah and 250V and it sounds better to my ears like that.
the tube run hot but i stay in the normal dissipation rate.
next step feeding the first triode with a CCS load..
thanks for the post. "ideal" operating point often depends on what you ask from the tube ... what could be linear with just a 5-10 volts swing, could go crazy if asked to swing, say 200 volts.
