I know this is not really 'kit' material, but since allthe Audio Note users probably read this page:Have been told that the CD transports and players are all being revamped. Does anyone know what is forthcoming? Will it be worthwhile to wait for the new line of CDTs? I have chance to get a used CDT-2 and wondering if I will not regret not waiting for a few weeks/months?
Follow Ups:
Dear Silver,At the moment we only have plans to replace the CDT Two with a better and slightly more expensive version, the timing of the reintroduction is uncertain, as we are prototyping at the moment and it then depends on parts availability and length of delivery time.
The CDT Zero and CDT One are unlikely to be replaced, as I cannot find a supply of suitable mechanisms.
Hope this helps.
Aloha Peter,This is great news. I will be upgrading most of my system after the first of the year. My current transport will be the first to go. I doubt, however, if my heavily modded DAC 1.2 will ever be replaced !
Do you think the new transport is months away or 1-2 years away?
Aloha,
Warren
Dear Warren,I am hoping a few months' away, the intention is to launch at 2005 CES if at all possible.
Thanks for replying in person Peter. I have been told that there are no more stock of the existing CDT-2 model even in the UK, and they are awaiting news of the new model. Is this correct? So I will have to figure out if I should go ahead with the used CDT-2 or wait and see how the new model turns out. How much better are you planning to make it (I am expecting a reply on this, right? - like it is going to be the same Philips transport?) ;-)
Dear Silverado,Correct I have even sold my own unit and is using the prototype!
We are working on the new model as we speak, one obstacle is that we demand a 3 year window of continuous supply from all the key parts suppliers and many or not prepared to give us that.
Silverdo, I remember a recent question here on AA to which Peter Q responded that AN could no longer source the quality transports they require to make a product. Basically, AN was not going to provide a transport as they couldn't get the parts required. Something about all transports being made for cheap DVD ROMs or something.Hopefully, AN will make another transport soon. But it appears that decision will be based upon the OEM manufacturers of the key components.
