One of my SS preamps is suddenly not passing any signal.
I am not an electronics person, but I thought maybe a fuse in the unit had blown.
I opened it up just now and there is a Buss 250V AGC 1/4 fuse on a little circuit block where the wall outlet power comes in. If I plug the preamp in without the fuse will that do any damage?
If, with the fuse in place, the pilot light lights, does that likely mean the fuse os okay?
Many thanks,
George

I tried to add feet to it while it was playing. Maybe, the motor got strained. I thought I would have a few hundred dollar repair. Opened it up and found about three fuses total, one for each circuit. I guess they weren't taking any chances. It was a simple DIY.
Get an ohm-voltage meter so you can check the fuse or just examine the fuse and possibly replace it with an EXACT copy. If still no sound, seek professional help.
The preamp is working now. It has two phono inputs, one of which seems not to be working. I tightened up shields on all the RCA connections going into the pre and am able to get audio now from Phono 2 and Aux (for my CD player) inputs. Later I shall try all the other inputs, one at a time, to see if there are further problems.
Thanks to responders!

Over the years plenty of minor issues caused the dreaded 'no sound'.
After a huge feeling of panic "NO MUSIC"..
The issue has almost always been some small SNAFU I can find and fix with a little patience.
I don't think you can cause any damage if the fuse is out. Like being blown. But i don't think it will help figure out your problem either.
Can you post a pic?
But yes if the pilot light goes on with the fuse it's not blown.
As usual check your connections, cables, source and yes even the amp.
time to start a PROPER troubleshooting procedure.
Cable swap would be easy and quick. POWER DOWN between swaps.
Too much is never enough
